It's not too hard to show better judgement than the girl's parents but you certainly have done so.

Good choice. I'm sorry it was going to be such a large party making it most responsible for you to skip it. Knowing its the right thing to do doesn't make it any easier, does it. I'm sorry too the hostess isn't requesting people arrive masked.

Covid-19 doesn't care though if it's your family or strangers. Anyone can carry the virus. Being a family member isn't any less of a risk.

Wow that’s crazy to have a party during a pandemic. It puts everyone at risk. No way would I go. Hope everyone else has the same decency and common sense. At that age, the child won’t even remember the party. I hate to change the subject, but I see no way to message you. I wanted to ask you something. My daughters BF found a recording of his late father from when he was a DJ in the 80’s. He has no idea what he would need to in order to listen to it. I said, “Maybe we could buy something off of EBay if he only knew what he needed. If only we knew a DJ.......wait I do know one!” Any idea what gadget would work with this?

It looks like a recorded audio tape. Try looking for a reel to reel "tape recorder". Or "tape deck". The difference between the two is that a tape deck needs to be connected to and played though the audio-in sockets of an amplifier (receiver) usually using two audio cords (L and R) with RCA plugs on each end for that purpose. And then played through the speakers connected to the amplifier (receiver).

Reel to Reel player. My parents had one. Dad had hours of music recorded. I young child's bday for "family" is usually just an excuse to gather family. It really isn't about that child remembering. You don't say if guests live near you, across town, across state, how often you see these people anyway...all that would matter more than your familial connection when we are talking pandemic. If it is not just family then for sure it is an inappropriate risky gathering given what's going on.

Thanks everyone for supporting my decision. My niece is one of those popular people and invites everybody to a party. When she had her baby shower before the pandemic she hadn't about 200 people there. At her daughter's 1-year birthday party she had a little over 100 people. She also has a newborn but she did cancel the baby shower at that time.

Yes that's certainly looks like a Real to Reel taping. Luckily there are a lot of companies that I can transfer it to another format such a CD. Thank you for thinking of me to answer your question.

Thank you for all of the responses. I’ve never seen a reel to reel player except for the in school movies in the 60’s. Loved those! His best bet is to get it converted.

You're welcome to your view. I would be similarly amused if someone happened upon a phonograph record, an audio cassette or a VHS cassette and said "I wonder how this is used?"

I live in Illinois. Even though she said the party will be held outside for social distancing not everyone is going to stay outside. At some point someone is going to have to use the washroom or help with food.
