A guy with strong decorating opinions could be a blessing or a curse, lol. I get frustrated at times when my dh does not seem to care enough, yet may not like it if his design did not mesh with mine ;) I know for sure our budget would be higher if he cared more about what we put in. I manage to work my champagne tastes down to screw top prices (often for the same stuff by bargain shopping) and also like some simpler choices for aesthetic reasons, but sometimes, a splurge is almost a necessity if I can't get the price any lower. He has a tough time not going with what he wants and when he wants it. I am more patient/realistic. It might be fun though to have someone be enthusiastic alongside me. I almost fell in love with the tile store guy yesterday, but he plays for the other team quite obviously, lol. He and I were on the same page with being giddy about getting just the right look for several rooms(or he is a master at faking it!).

I've found that with touch ups, it helps to thin the paint a little with water (assuming it is water based paint), dip the brush, wipe off excess paint and blot the paint brush on a paper towel a little. Dab the brush a few times on the area to be touched up rather than brushing it. This technique is similar to how stenciling is done. You want to work with an almost dry brush so you don't get globs of paint or brush marks. I learned this technique from the Ellen Kennon website. If you don't get complete coverage with the first coat, let it dry, then repeat. This works best with a flat or satin finish. Semi-gloss and gloss durfaces are harder to touch up evenly.

I really like that bedding! I think you could do a pale light blue or green (am thinking almost a lime green, but very pale). Or lavender... pale pink... I really like b&w with pink, myself. My bathroom is Odessa Pink with black and white accents.

Thanks for the input everyone! We would be doing a similar shade in cabinet paint to the trim paint--both would be shade of white. The trim will be a SW Linen White to match the interior windows--this is not a standard color they carry, it is apparently a special formula they make for Pella (the interior of the windows were pre-painted at the Pella factory). There will be at least 2 places in the kitchen/breakfast/great room area where trim and cabinet would be right against each other, and probably a similar amount of spots in each bathroom. So, I'm thinking from your responses and, given my answers to your questions, I probably should try to match the trim and cabinets--if we do an off-white shade on the cabinet. ontariomom, it's interesting that you feel glaze is not as timeless--I've thought the same thing about the gray, beige, green, etc. painted cabinets that seem so popular right now. My husband and I both really love the weathered or aged look that glaze provides. We did it in our last remodel and were very happy. However, I've heard others in addition to you mention that they feel glaze is not classic or is "out." So, I'm going back and forth on doing what we love (glaze) with chance it may look dated relatively soon, trying a painted "color" cabinet such as light gray or beige, or doing a painted off-white cabinet with no glaze. tcufrog, I'm trying to work with the cabinetmaker to get sample boards, so hopefully that will help the decision!
