So you are thinking about brushing on a coat over the factory finish?

Here's the deal with that option. Even if you brush a coat on and touchup later, its not likely to blend perfectly. Do you know what type paint will be applied to your factory cabinets because that will make a difference too on what your next option might be.

To touch up a sprayed finish, you just dab the paint on with a brush and hope that it dries flat. You don't want to leave brushmarks and I don't think you really want to take brand new sprayed cabinets and brush them out do you? That would defeat the purpose of having them sprayed.

I've found that with touch ups, it helps to thin the paint a little with water (assuming it is water based paint), dip the brush, wipe off excess paint and blot the paint brush on a paper towel a little. Dab the brush a few times on the area to be touched up rather than brushing it. This technique is similar to how stenciling is done. You want to work with an almost dry brush so you don't get globs of paint or brush marks.

If you don't get complete coverage with the first coat, let it dry, then repeat.

This works best with a flat or satin finish. Semi-gloss and gloss durfaces are harder to touch up evenly.
