Dining Room Dilemmas
Comments (7)Just curious, but have you ever tried turning the table the other way? It would seem to parallel the window wall, and the side walls would seem less empty as the visual focus would be on the end wall. I would think a medium olive/moss green would be pretty and would work well with the table, the valances and your other accent pieces. As for the space between the windows, I think the issue is that while you have many nice things there (wall and table), they all feel kind of similar in size and disconnected. I A grouping of plates there ( the clock feels like the wrong style for the decor in the room) or an oval mirror to echo the shapes of the chair backs would be nice. I would keep the lamp and the pedestal with the fruit and the hens. The glass hurricane looks like an afterthought. The basket with the dried hydrangea is nice, but doesn't really add any color or interest to the arrangement. Perhaps that could go under the bench with the other basket....See MoreLiving Room/Dining Room Dilemma

Comments (4)The room could benefit from a new chandelier. If you have a need for a buffet, scootch back the chairs on that side of the room and see if you have enough room for something. It is also possible to buy console tables that are only 12" deep. I don't think one 36" square picture is going to fill the wall adequately. There was one poster a couple months ago who put family pictures in her dining room. This is unique, but it was a good way to fill the space with things she wanted to display. I'm all for breaking the rules when it suits you. Strangers shouldn't be able to tell you what you should or shouldn't put on your walls. :-) Here are some pictures of things other people did with similar space. They're not all dining rooms, but just to give you some ideas . . ....See Moreliving room+ dining room layout dilemma… tv above fireplace?
Comments (3)I understand why you wanted to have the bistro table/chairs on the window wall between the patio door and the kitchen passageway….it makes sense to have your dining area adjacent to the kitchen. The open wall at the opposite end is the perfect location for the tv. So swap the sofa and loveseat and anchor them and the cocktail table on the rug (front legs of sofa/loveseat on the rug), so the loveseat will pull in closer to the fireplace, leaving room behind for the dining area and access to the patio door. The square end table could then be placed in the corner between the sofa/loveseat....See More- 3 years ago
