That looks like a lovely space--plenty of light, large room, fireplace, nice wood floors. Some questions first. What are the primary functions of the room? TV watching, sitting and chatting, eating, listening to music, reading, entertaining guests, watching the fire? Make a list of all the things you want to do in this room. Then consider whether you can do them in the room as it currently is, or if you need to add/replace any pieces. For example, if you'd like to use this room as a cozy reading spot, is there a comfortable chair with a good lamp and table nearby, or is reading frustrating because the only place to sit with good light isn't comfortable for reading for long periods of time and there's no place to put down the book or a cup of tea? Second, traffic patterns. Most of the furniture looks pushed up against the window wall. Is that to leave a clear path to the doorway at the upper left? There are ways to arrange furniture to avoid the "bowling alley" effect. Could you post a drawing of the surrounding rooms so we can see the traffic flow? And is there a space outside the window that you access from this room? Third, what's that box hanging from the ceiling? Is that a projector? Where's the screen? As for style, cozy doesn't have to be cottagey. With the furniture you have now, I'd consider getting a large area rug or two. They would help define the space, and add some warmth, even if they are a modern design. A throw in a vibrant color. Dress the window in plain white sheers, maybe on a cable system from Ikea. But I really feel that rearranging the furniture will create a better feeling of coziness. I'd create two separate areas in the room. One up by the fireplace, with maybe a loveseat facing the fireplace, with an end table or two and a lamp. Or two chairs with a round table between them. Anchor that grouping with an area rug. Then a second, larger grouping in front of the windows, centered on the TV, using the sectional. I'd consider a different coffee table, or painting the one you have. Again, with a large area rug to anchor the seating area. As for colors, orange always seems like a modern color to me. So I'd consider swapping out the orange in the room for another color that would go with the brown. That room is a toughie with the multiple entrances and windows! I'm not very good with this kind of thing, but what I do is use some of those furniture coasters that you put under each leg in order to easily slide furniture around, and then just play with moving things around to various locations. If you don't have a sofa you can play with, what about getting a large piece of cardboard (or tape a few pieces together) to lay on the floor in place of a sofa with dimensions you think would work? I see you are open to buying sofa an chair, but are you looking to add more furniture to the chaise and chair, or possibly replace them altogether? I ask because I'm not so sure both the chaise and a sofa will work in that room. Do you actually use the chaise? Do you spend a lot of time in front of the TV? Would it make sense to have a couple of chairs on the wall below where the chaise is shown for a conversation area, and some sort of furniture facing the TV or fireplace?

OK, Jessica. The fireplace room looks good. Let's return to your original dilemma: the front room. It's essentially empty. It would be nice for it to provide a welcome sight when you enter the front door. Beyond that though, what would you use the space for? Would you ever have a group of people in there for conversation while others watch TV in the back? Could it be a second TV area? If so, could you stretch the budget for a bit more furniture?

it's nice to get the furniture off the wall but you don't need a walkway behind the longest sofa. you DO need it behind the new location of the love seat around the back and the kitchen side to the back door. moving the 3 seater back up against the wall and shifting the love seat with it will open up more space on the kitchen side opening up the room even more. or just move the sofa to the wall and leave the loveseat so you still have a path to the doors across the seating area. the cabinet you have angled in the corner now can act as a sofa table behind the love seat just to give you and idea or it can go under the opening to your kitchen or along the wall under your mirror. love your mirror by the way, I wouldn't paint it. the white chair looks great in the room. first picture to show that with a sofa table you don't look at the back of a couch and leaves a walkway thru the seating. imagine the left sofa in the 2nd picture against a wall the loveseat forming and L with an end table between. the 3rd an alternate location for the chair just make sure you still have comfortable access to the door .
