To my taste, you have too much stuff. What’s that tall wooden piece by the door? A bookcase? It doesn’t belong.

Replacing your dark couch pillows with a very light color would help. You seem to have several white accents (wall frames, coffee table) - get white pillows.

Mentioning wall decor, you currently have an odd mix of white and very dark. Pick ONE.

Thanks for your input. My odd mix of white and dark is because I’m confused on what looks best in here. The round mirror is vintage from the 40’s or so. I’m thinking of painting it white. My LR doesn’t get a lot of natural light. I’m trying to see what works the best. The bookcase by the loveseat is odd but I’m unsure what to do with it.

First thought I’d move the sofa and love seat more in the center of the room and put a sofa table behind the sofa. I’m not a fan of big furniture hugging the walls.

And remove one big chair.. it’s too much bulk..

I want to move the sofas to the center of the room more. I’m going to spend Friday putting y’alls advice into action.

Can you post a pic that better shows the opening to the room behind the little rocker? Dining and kitchen, I now see. You have some nice things on your walls and I'll be the folks here can help arrange them in a more cohesive manner. But settle on the furniture placement first. If you can post that one more pic of the room, you might get even more suggestions for furniture arrangement.

Olychick, that’s the dining room. The little window behind the rocker is the kitchen. I can get a better photo tomorrow if you believe it’s needed. If so, what angle?

I agree that you want to move the sofas away from the walls. the idea is to create a conversation grouping. it will give the illusion that the room is bigger. I would swap out the chair you have in the living room for the white one. that will bring more brightness to the room. I would then see if the white chair can go in the place of the small wooden white chair at an angle so the person sitting in the chair can face people sitting on the 2 sofas. you will have to play around with placement so that it isnt blocking the entry into the room. it can impede slightly but there needs to be enough clearance for traffic flow. you may need to also play with the two sofas so all three pieces can fit.

can you shoot that whole wall/opening (or as much as you can get into the pic) from straight across the room, like from in front of the loveseat.

Those are good! I think it will help people see how much room can be used in the living room without blocking the walkway to the kitchen, dining room. Hopefully, someone can do some mock ups for you.

I was curious to see if, when you move the furniture, if there was room to have the sofa or loveseat placed with its back to the dining room opening without blocking it too much, but I don't think there is. So I'd probably do what others have suggested and pull the loveseat up to the coffee table forming and L with the sofa. To get a chair into the conversation area, I think you're going to have to experiment with whether the sofa or the loveseat works best with its back to the wall and trying to fit a chair where the little rocker is. I'm afraid you furniture style might be a wee bit bulky for optimal arranging in that room, but if you don't mind moving it around and getting feedback on different configurations, something will work!

It is a lot of large furniture for the space. My thoughts are to center the longest sofa under the grouping where you now have the love seat. Move the coffee table with it. The love seat with a sofa table and a walkway behind where the sofa was. You can form an L with the 2 that will force people to walk around the grouping not through it. Do you need that much seating? A chair angled by the fireplace either side whatever works. Leave a path open along the walls from the front to the back doors and kitchen. When you do look for different furniture. Look for things that are smaller scale.

I agree the furniture is too bulky. It doesn’t help they we purchased it way before we bought this home. I may move it around tomorrow and see how things look. Thank you for your thoughts.

how does it feel as you walk around the room. the coffee table seems like it's too heavy feeling and perhaps too big. the white chair... is there enough room in the walkway into the room. definitely an improvement from before. do u chance have another smaller coffee table that you could swap in just to see how it would feel and look. something that is more open underneath. not sure if you have another family room with a different coffee table.

The white chair isn’t in the way at all. My coffee table is heavy. It has a lot of storage and is currently holding all of my young daughter’s art supplies (paper, markers, crayons, coloring books) and blankets. I don’t have another one or another family room.

It feels different but cozier.

do you have enough room to walk around the room in a comfortable way. it seems like there is but hard to tell from photos. I don't think a sofa table is needed as you need to make sure there is enough space to get around comfortably. what do you think now that you changed the room around

I would suggest a side table between the two sofas though.. I would suggest a very open feeling table, possibly a metal one and a new shape like a round one

sorry just saw one more thing. I would suggest some light colored pillows for the couches. take one of the dark pillows and put it on the white chair so you spread out lights and darks. I would also suggest a couple table lamps. the one you have looks small to me. room looks like it needs more light.

sorry, one more thing... maybe move the side table you have against the wall in the space between the two sofas and see how that looks.

geez, sorry I keep seeing things to tweak.. you have a larger table at an angle. consider moving it next to the left side of the couch that is next to the wall with the opening into your kitchen. the two side tables need to be part of the grouping and right now they seem alone where they are.

it's nice to get the furniture off the wall but you don't need a walkway behind the longest sofa. you DO need it behind the new location of the love seat around the back and the kitchen side to the back door. moving the 3 seater back up against the wall and shifting the love seat with it will open up more space on the kitchen side opening up the room even more. or just move the sofa to the wall and leave the loveseat so you still have a path to the doors across the seating area. the cabinet you have angled in the corner now can act as a sofa table behind the love seat just to give you and idea or it can go under the opening to your kitchen or along the wall under your mirror. love your mirror by the way, I wouldn't paint it. the white chair looks great in the room. first picture to show that with a sofa table you don't look at the back of a couch and leaves a walkway thru the seating. imagine the left sofa in the 2nd picture against a wall the loveseat forming and L with an end table between. the 3rd an alternate location for the chair just make sure you still have comfortable access to the door

I switched the loveseat and sofa and moved the table to where sofas meet. I can’t move the little cabinet in the corner because it holds a mess of wires and TV equipment.

ok, are you sweating...LOL, that was some quick changes. looking even better!! should the coffee table now be turned 90 so that long end of coffee table is parallel to long sofa.

LOL! Somewhat. My daughter is about to be home from school so I’m trying to make some last minute changes before she comes home and throws everything everywhere LOL.

Yes, I’ll change the coffee table. I don’t know what we were thinking buying all this bulky furniture. I could definitely use a sofa table with nice lamps behind the loveseat, I think.

it will all come together in the end. fun, I hope, getting a new look with existing stuff. it looks very different vs the before and I am really liking the new set up. could you just straighten out the cabinet to the wall instead of it being on an angle by chance. keep where it is but just no angle.

That looks so much more inviting now! Live with it for a while and make sure it works for tv watching and moving through the room, then you can start tweaking the other decor items, art on the walls, etc.
