Am I the only one who does not hybridize?
Comments (19)Been there and done that and it was a lot of work and expense and I only had 211 seedlings. On the upside there is no one more ruthless than me when it comes to judging seedlings. Bad foilage, gone. Won't open on cool mornings, gone. Melts in the heat, gone. Fades to an ugly color at night, gone. I am a firm believer that there are way too many daylilies out there that have nothing to offer as far as registering them goes and you have to wonder how the heck they got there in the first place. Our town has green recycling and that is the perfect place for plants that aren't an improvement on their parents. For everyone who feels that I am a monster for not loving "my babies" keep in mind that they are just plants and if they are recycled as compost they have served a better purpose than planting an inferior product. No more hybridizing for me!!!!!!! JoAnn...See MoreAm I the only one who can't sleep? Hope you don't mind me Venting
Comments (16)ilene-84, Happy Birthday to your Dad! Is he a WW II vet? I hope all the medical issues are behind you and your family now. Spring is around the corner and it's such a great time of year. And, I'm sure when your kitchen is all done, it will be great simply because it has been a labor of love. It's good to know I am not the only one sleeping terribly. I wake up every day with a terrible headache and neck pain. I also wake up in the middle of the night repeatedly adding up cabinet sizes, trying to make a list of events of what should come next, what goes and doesn't go, if I do this then I have to do that and the infamous DID I MAKE A MISTAKE and what are my options now if I decide to change the layout. I started keeping a pen and paper on the night table to be able to jot down the ideas and make notes. However, one kitty is a pen thief, the other is a paper tearer. So when I get up to find the pen, big doggie has to come over and inquire as to what I am doing but more so to make sure he is not missing out on a food tidbit. Then DH starts in, what's wrong, is everything okay . . . it's so pitiful I have to laugh because I would cry. Now I try to get back into bed and find out that another kitty has stolen my warm spot and I just can't bear to move them so to the couch for me where I wonder, I just left that bed with all of them so how did we fit on there before! At least I'm off the kitchen biz. So much for the couch idea. There is usually the shy rescue cat there who so prefers DH to me. Then if I manage to lay down, it's impossible to get my back comfortable but then I finally fall asleep out of sheer exhaustion and then there is DH waking me, come back to bed, you know the couch is no good for your back. Argh . . just leave me be! This is a daily routine for us. I almost want to quit my day job and get a night job just so I don't have to go to sleep. I am sure also that the massive amounts of junk food I am eating is not helping the situation either. I am actually craving veggies so I don't know what that says about the diet. But in the end I will have a nice enough kitchen that I have built out of a labor of love. I am so looking forward to cooking again for us so hang in there! Christine, thanks for sharing your perspective on things. I must say you must be one strong resilient woman! You go girl....See MoreAm I the only one who thinks this way.........
Comments (36)No offense, after all, you did ask, but frankly I think it was a tacky thing to say. I'm sure glad it wasn't said to the kid. Saying is that ALL? would probably crush the guy. It raises the point/problem I have about how materialistic society has become and with all the Hallmark Holidays forcing people to spend money they don't have on things the recipient can't and giving it to people they may not even like that much! Then comes the issue for some: Is $2500 significant to this guy? I know it would be for me. But I know people that will spend that for trinkets and would consider a ring like that an insult. Lots of things can come into play, right? I see the logic on both sides of the gift issue. And yes, traditionally it's a conditional gift and in most states, legally it's considered a conditional gift. Then again, I also see 2/3 of all marriages ending in divorce and with the lifelong commitment now turned into till irreconcilable differences do us part it could well be a very very extravagant gift. I definitely think the guy's mother felt a little defensive and I see why. It probably was quite a sacrifice for him and rather than give her a bunch of trinkets and trash, he chose to put it all together. Reminds me of people born near Christmas and are offended that they don't have a separate birthday party & present instead of a combined. If I ever get engaged again, I think I'll go for a $25.00 ring and a $2475 television/audio system or something and make it fair, she can keep the ring on her and I'll keep the TV and stuff at my place until we get married! :D...See MoreAm I the only one who hates this?
Comments (96)While talking to a guy building a new home nestled among upscale houses in a nearby village, I told him that if you'd told homeowners of World War II variety that in modern days they've been taking wood chips, mixing them with glue, making them into sheets and using them to build walls of houses, they'd have laughed at you and said that no way would they consider paying their good money to buy a piece of crap built like that! It's not unusual to see buildings in Europe 300 - 500 years or more old. Have you ever seen such in our area? My shelf panels and shelves, made of sawdust and glue, have a piece of cardboard stapled to the back to keep the unit from falling over sideways. ole joyful...See MoreLindsey_CA
