I don't think this knee surgery is ever going to happen!

I was scheduled to have the knee surgery last year, but my back went out and

laid me up, but this year the back is doing good.

So I was scheduled for the knee surgery last Monday, the 27th, yeah!

Had my COVID test last week Wednesday and the stress test on Thursday. Had Dr. appt. Friday with the surgeons office. They called me Friday morning and said that I flunked my stress test! What?

So I go to see the Cardiologist 2 days ago on Monday. He says nothing wrong with my heart, he spent quite a bit of time explaining it too me and I feel great!

Well, I've had this throbbing off and on on one of my molars. So today I went to the DDS and she takes X-ray and says, not good. There is a crown, but the tooth under it is cracked. Crap! So I need to go to the oral surgeon and get it pulled (which it will probably crack and need to get dug out). Well of course you cannot have dental work within 3 weeks before the knee surgery nor within 3 months after the knee surgery. So now I feel I need to get this tooth done so I don't end up in a lot of pain.

There goes the knee again! I just want to be done with this whole thing!!!

Not looking forward the the oral surgeon, although they really are good.

Just having a little pity party tonight!

Seems like one thing leads to another, doesn't it? I'm glad the cardiologist said there's nothing wrong with your heart! But why did you fail the stress test??

Lynn we are in a very similar place about our house - it's too big for us at this stage of our lives. We use most of the square footage in some way - because it's there - but could easily manage with half ! Our youngest will be graduating from college next May and HOPEFULLY will be employed and able to support himself but who knows? Our older son works for the forest service but those gov't jobs are shakey, to say the least, so we always want to have a place where they can land if needed. So.... we keep the big old house - for now. Stuff? I reached a saturation point many years ago and continually work to pare down. But it's back to that big house thing again - I'm not going to live in empty rooms so there's still far more STUFF than I actually need. When my mom died and I helped my dad move into an apartment, tons of family stuff came my way. Eleven years later when my dad died, the rest of it came to me. We've all talked about this before - the pull of family items and how hard it is to get rid of some things. But it has to be done so over the years I've pared down to the things that have the most meaning and passed the rest on in one way or another. I have dreams (nightmares?) about moving into a small home and having boxes and furniture stacked everywhere because I didn't sort and get rid of enough before moving!! Gifts? I could write a book. Christmas at my in-laws used to make me physically ill with the insane buying and giving of cr@p. It doesn't matter to me a bit how much time is put into the shopping and wrapping, or what the item is. When someone (namely my MIL) is purchasing *stuff* because of a date on a calendar and is obsessed with getting the same # of packages for each person, because that's "just what you do for Xmas" I want no part of it. We'd been married only a short time when I told my DH that I was opting out. He was totally on board. It was a sore spot with everyone in his family for many years but we held firm. We just stopped buying. Our kids would get everything they needed and some of what they wanted all through the year at a time when it made sense to get the item, not an enormous pile o' stuff, all on one day, much of it to be returned, exchanged or donated. And that returning/exchanging all fell to me, of course. A few years of that and we started just donating everything, in the boxes, tags still on. Give me a quiet day, with my family cooking together, laughing and going for a long walk...... THAT'S the gift I want.

I agree with postponing the wedding until these issues are settled. I promise you, it CAN get better, and that is up to your fiancee, but also up to you as well. Once he has addressed the issues with her, you will see a very dramatic turnaround in the behaviour of the child. Don't make that your issue because it's not. Your BM is behaving this way because a) she is being allowed to, and b) she is getting something out of it - satisfaction, attention, drama, pity - she is getting whatever reaction she wants and she is feeding off it. And you know what - your fiancee is getting something out of it as well. You both just need to figure out what that is. If your fiancee says only call once a day and then he answers the phone and argues with her several times a day, then he is teaching her that she doesn't have to take him seriously and she can do whatever she wants, regardless of what he says. HE is giving her permission to do this! I don't see a problem with you being the primary caretaker if your fiancee is working - don't worry about that - but he needs to give you a LOT more support. This is not your child, and you are not a glorified unpaid babysitter and nanny. What I would suggest is to get yourself in a place of absolute calm - take some time out and go for a long walk, have a massage, go get yourself an iced coffee or something - and just BE. Just sit and relax and clear your head. Don't sit and worry and stress about the situation. Don't even let yourself think about it. Just relax. Then when you are feeling in a more relaxed frame of mind, sit down with him and have a talk. No shouting, accusing, crying - NO DRAMA - and discuss it calmly with him. I assure you, I know how difficult this is, especially when tensions are running high - but the benefits are enormous. One point you need to make clear to him, in a loving way, is that if you leave then it's expected that sometime in the future he will meet someone else, and if these particular issues are not resolved, then that woman, and every other woman after her, will leave the same way. The one thing I said to my DH, a long long time ago, when I faced VERY similar problems that you are dealing with, was this, "If you are not able or not willing to address the disruptive and destructive behaviour that you are allowing to continue, through your ex wife and into OUR family, then you will always be alone. No woman - not me, not any other woman with any self-respect - will put up with it. That is your choice." Actually, I told him that he would never EVER have sex again unless he paid for it :) But don't try that unless you both have a very wicked and evil sense of humour like we have - he took it the right way and it gave us both a chuckle :D I said this out of love, and in understanding for the very difficult position that he was in with an ex wife who behaved like your BM. And it IS difficult for the man as well, trying to keep two women happy, for different reasons. One more thing - start taking a more logical approach over this situation. Men don't respond well to emotion, and the last thing he will want is drama from his ex and then drama from you as well. Where is his peace? His place of safety and security and comfort? Once I stopped fighting with my DH over this issue, and instead gave him a soft place to land after her erratic and aggressive behaviour and attacks, and once I LET GO OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP and helped him build up the self-esteem that she was working so hard to rip to shreds every day, and gave him the strength to believe he COULD have a more peaceful life by being more assertive with her, he started seeing it for himself, and he started changing things. NOT because I wanted him to (and of course I did!), but because I told him that his actions with BM were hurting me and hurting our marriage and family deeply, and I was going to put my faith in him and trust in him to protect us from that and to take care of the situation so that OUR family and marriage could be peaceful, loving and safe. Today, I can promise you, our BM is not an issue in our lives in any way. No tantrums, no threats, no aggression, no phone calls, no 20 text messages a day, no 10 emails a day, no fighting, no drama, no problems. HE is the one who has to do this, but YOU are the one who can make that happen for him. All the best x

Had they emailed you five days ahead ... and if most of the members could be reached by email (or if you have telphone linkages so that one person only need call three), you could have canvassed the group to see how much enthusiasm/willingness there might have been to change the plans of all 30 ... and the restaurant would have had time to change their plans (which they might have been somewhat unwilling to do, were it to have involved, as some have suggested, feeding your crew right at their regular lunch hour, when they'd be run off of their feet). As it was, having made their reservations at 2 in the morning a few hours before your meeting, then having slept in till just before time to leave for the party, so not having time to have phoned/emailed you to give you some lead time ... ... they expect everyone to jump through hoops to accomodate their plans. Someone should suggest that they were lucky that the group didn't agree to have 30 people eat an hour or two earlier ... ... or some of the restaurant staff might have slipped a knife between their ribs! (As it is ... someone(s) feel(s) entitled to slip one between yours). Dad used to say, "Small potatoes ... and few in a hill". As it is, I'm sort of glad that this is the most serious thing that you have to worry about just now. Have yourself a lovely Christmas! ole joyful P.S. I love making soil. I love it even more when someone else is doing most of the work for me. I'm itching to start some spring planting in my tiny garden, but it's technically still a bit early (our last frost date is supposed to be around the 18th or so, but these days who even knows) and I'm impatiently waiting for the contractors to show up and replace my rotted fence before I can do any planting in the back half where the pile of rock mulch over weed cloth used to be. The fence would have rotted anyway, but the bottom of it was completely eaten away where the rock mulch was piled against it. I have already put down a tiny new tree (Amelanchier x "Autumn Brilliance") which arrived bare root and needed to go in the ground ASAP, but it's not next to the fence, so it should be fine as long as the fence guys don't step on the 18 inch high forked stick which, seen with my eye of faith, is already a handsome small patio tree. The tree went in the spot where the old, scrawny, unhealthy cherry plum used to be, where I have been piling vermicompost and leaves ever since last summer. I didn't amend the planting hole at all - just dug and filled in. Enough leaf mold and vermicompost just fell into the hole to make me feel fine about the start my new tree's roots are getting. Anyway, the "someone else" who is working for me outside is a healthy passel of earthworms, which I can see out there every time I pull back last autumn's leaf mulch, which I diligently collected from the sidewalk in front of my row house and brought out back. Even if I can't set to work yet, I like knowing that they're hard at it. I've seen some of my red wigglers who rode out from my indoor worm bin, and at least three separate species of native earthworms: slow gray short guys, some really huge red nightcrawler types, and a longer, thinner, super-active wiggly worm that's new to me. I've also scattered out some seeds and grains for the sparrows and squirrels, inspired by some videos of composting chickens I've watched on Youtube: so there's been lots of pecking and scratching and digging going on in the layer of leaves, which is both fun to watch and will serve to further shred down the leaves for incorporation in the soil. When I do get to the planting along the back fence, I'll try to remember to post a soil pic as a "before and after" to the one at the start of this topic.

Cardiologist said there was a spot in the pics that showed a blockage, but there was blood flow on both sides of the “blockage”, therefore there was no “blockage”!

At least that’s was good news!

Maybe there's a reason for all these delays.... hopefully you'll get the knee taken care of soon!

From experience, I can say that after the recovery, it is SO nice to be able to walk without pain and a limp!!

Until we learn to accept and live with Covid nobody is going to be getting much in the way of medical care. The urgent care clinics are only allowing telemedicine and doctor's offices are closed. Not sure if our dinky little hospital is still open much less allowing patients in the door.

Recently I tripped on a piece of wire and punctured my ankle. If a piece of wire was stuck in there or it had become infected what could a telemedicine visit do for that?

No, that isn't how it is. The only reason why you think this is the only alternative is that you assume that the situation we're facing now, caused SOLELY by inept and incompetent politicians who have crippled and sidelined our capable public health system, will continue indefinitely. It won't. Right now, poor and undeveloped Third World countries like India are doing better than we are. We've hit an all time low.

Things will get better after the next election. Many Republicans are already pushing back and jumping from the sinking ship and more will follow.

I had a tooth pulled in April and after three days of soft food, I became terribly constipated! I had to call the doctor for advice. Prune juice and stool softeners did the trick. Dentists need to warn their patients about that.

Maddie - I live in a small town, there wasn't much choice for medical care before this started, now the only choice is to drive at least 90 minutes and hope that you'll be seen. I love living in the country but as will all things, there is a trade off.

We too live in small town, but I have a local doc I’m very happy with. For the tooth pull I’ll have to drive less than an hour north and it is a beautiful drive.

I’ve had other teeth pulled, so not to concerned about, but why now!

But then, I can get around pretty well with the knee, just no long distance walking.

Hope the knee operation can happen very quickly.

Whew I'm tired thinking about all that. Sounds to me like you deserve a pity party.

The word pity to me breaks down to pie and tea. A favourite pity party thing for me.

Kathy, that's good that you were able to find a good doctor in a small town. When I moved here none of the doctors listed on the insurance were taking new patients so I never bothered to find one. Our drives are beautiful in the spring, summer and fall too but not in winter. Everyone I've known that had knee surgery was happy with the results and glad to have done it.

I feel your pain. I had knee surgery last October and had to be cleared first by the Cardiologist. Went down to a week before surgery but finally got the clearance. On June 24th I was suppose to have cataract surgery. Got up at 4:30 a.m., got showered and dressed and headed to the hospital 45 minutes away. I felt fine, but apparently my heart was racing (it does that from time to time). My heart rate was 120 and my blood pressure, which has been running low, was 157/100. So they wouldn't do the surgery. I took my blood pressure and pulse every morning at the same time for two weeks and the blood pressure was low and the heart rate normal (for me) every day. I've since had an echocardiogram and have been wearing a heart monitor. I see the cardiologist August 12th and am hoping he will give the Opthamologist approval for surgery. It was so disappointing but life goes on.
