Help me arrange/design my laundry room
Comments (8)We're in the process of doing our laundry room. My hope is to make it as efficient as possible so that I can be in and out as quickly as possible. I'll tell you about our plans...maybe it will give you some ideas for your space. We're going to use a combination of Ikea kitchen cabinets and the Ikea Stolmen storage unit. I like this unit because it's modular and can be changed around with drawers, clothes bars, and shelves. Hooks can be mounted on the vertical supports. It's also very open--so that it keeps the room feeling large. Could you possibly use something like this across the front of your utility wall leaving space behind it and at the ends to leave easy access to the furnace, etc.? The unit attaches to the floor and the ceiling which allows it to be placed away from a wall. This would give you lots of storage--including hanging storage. So, anyway, this is my plan: 1. West wall--front loader washer/dryer. Ikea base cabinets with deep drawers for storing sorted loads of dirty laundry. Also, a laundry sink. Horizontal wall cabinets (with lift up doors.) 2. North Wall--large window on this wall (2nd floor laundry room.) Ikea base cabinets with doors. Space will be used to store baskets of clean laundry, or empty baskets. Family members will theoretically come retreive their baskets of clean clothes. There will be a small-drawer-mounted ironing board in this run of cabinets. Long stretch of counter will be used for folding. 3. East wall. Stolmen unit and 2 tall 15" wide pantry cabinets. One with pull outs for storage. The other to be used for broom/vacuum/ironing board storage. The Stolmen unit will have clothes-hanging bars, shelves, hooks and drawers. One drawer will be used for wrapping paper so that the folding counter can be used for wrapping. Clothes drying racks will be stored, folded up, under a window on this wall. We do a lot of air drying. I hope to have a sewing machine permanently set up in the corner for quick repairs. 4. South wall--has wall mounted drying racks that tilt out. We have all the components. DH just needs the time to put them together. Here is a link that might be useful: Stolmen system...See MoreTurning my daughter's nursery into her 'big girl' room
Comments (16)I have 3 kids - my 2 girls are ages 4 and 6, so we have washed lots of bedding in the last few years! I would suggest a quilt or coverlet instead of a comforter. The Company Store, JC Penney or Target quilts have all held up as well as I have needed them to. Keep in mind when your daughter is elementary age, she may wish to make some changes in her room, and the bedding is often the easiest to change, so whatever you pick does not have to last forever. Avoid white or light colors for staining reasons and if you can find a subtle pattern, it may camouflage even further. Your MIL can certainly make some accent pillows to go on the bed - my kids love their bolster style pillows. On other thing that you may consider is adding a row of heavy-duty hooks somewhere that your daughter can reach (or can reach in a couple of years). This would be handy for hanging the PJ's that she takes off in the am and puts back on in the pm or bags with her "activity" stuff like dance shoes and leotards, karate uniform, soccer shoes, etc. Depending on your closet and/or mudroom set up this may not need to be in her room, but regardless, little girls collect lots of bags and love a place to put them. Your room is adorable now. You made great choices with paint and fabric already! Have fun with the little one. Here some unsolicited advice - take it or leave it: Also, don't fret over her moving to a big girl bed - lots of fun things are to come. It is much easier to potty train, get rid of pacis, etc, when they are in "big" beds. One other suggestion to lessen the trauma for her moving to a different bed is to set her bed up in her room and leave the crib in there. Talk up the big girl bed but keep putting her in the crib until she asks to sleep or nap in the big bed. After a few successful naps/nights, then move the crib out. With a new baby on the way, she needs to have some "Choices" and this will increase the likelihood of success. Best wishes!...See MoreHelp with my son's 'big boy' room...
Comments (4)auburn92 First..a big congrats on your new baby! How exciting. Your little boy must be so excited to be a big brother.. doing his room right before baby, will make him feel special. I love Land of Nod!! and I love the bedding! just perfect! I like the color of the walls in the picture. To break up yellow or gold, add red area carpets and red accents to the walls. Or..there are many nice shades of blue, that will work also. Or..a nice cream and blue pin strip wall paper on the bottom under a chair rail, and either gold, red or blue paint on top, it will break up solid walls that way if you think one color will be too much ..there are so many options, which is great! I love the vintage airplanes and old trunks..that is a perfect idea..maybe find stickers from travel places and stick them on the trucks..or you can make a collage of different places around the world and states and frame it in red as well.. maybe some small flags from different countries for the walls too..( the are triangle in shape and can be put on string to hang across the wall..) I think this will be a beautiful boys room..you have all the right ideas..it's fun and whimsical ..very different from the same ol' sports, trains, cars etc.. you are going to have fun decorating his room. you have to post pictures when you are done. Comments (14)The table top in your inspiration pic caught my attention. It's not the usual furniture showroom table top. I really like this cedar "countertop" and was wondering if something like it might work as a table top or as a top of a rolling cart island that could work as kitchen prep space and/or guest dining if not as a table. http://www.devoswoodworking.com/designing-wood-countertops/wane-edges.html Legs could be bought separately. https://carolinalegco.com/products/x-metal-table-legs-set-of-2-modern-industrial-legs-custom-sizes-available?variant=32186224640097&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_term=&utm_campaign=DR_PLA_Smart_200%25&utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=ppc&hsa_acc=7051262680&hsa_cam=9915659242&hsa_grp=103137792649&hsa_ad=432122759881&hsa_src=u&hsa_tgt=pla-296303633664&hsa_kw=&hsa_mt=&hsa_net=adwords&hsa_ver=3&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6p_wwNPU6gIVgbbICh0T8w-jEAsYAyABEgIkX_D_BwE...See Moredecoenthusiaste
