Where do you buy your hostas from?
Comments (24)I like webwalkway.com, Naylor Creek, Hallson's, Northern Grown, White Oak, Bridgewood, and the weekly Saturday farmer's markets in both Iowa City and Des Moines. The first six do mail order, the farmer's markets usually have several hosta sellers with a pretty good selection and some of the more unusual or newer hostas. If you live in an area with a farmer's market, check it out--it's surprising how many markets have at least one person with hostas....See MoreWhere do you buy your canning jars online?
Comments (12)Clare, I also got many of my jars from elderly friends who don't can any more. I take them bread and homemade jam and they are glad their jars found a happy home! I used to get them at Goodwill and 2nd hand shops but canning has become much more popular the past few yars and someone always beats me to it since I'm at work all day and can only make it to the stores on weekends or evenings. Walmart is the most expensive place here, I do find jars sometimes at Menard's and Big Lots, usually the Golden Harvest brand at Big Lots and they are always quite a lot cheaper than Walmart is. Since my local True Value hardware store is just a few blocks from the house and everything else is a minimum of 60 miles round trip, it's a lot cheaper to pay a couple of dollars extra and save the gas, plus the owner is my neighbor, 3 houses down. Comments (7)We're planning on ordering from this company. All my interactions have been positive so far with good followup on their behalf, both on the phone and via email. I requested a cabinet sample block and it was sent quickly. (It cost about $15). We're going with the Starmark (same name as Fieldstone) line. I visited a local showroom and was very impressed by the quality. We're not using a kitchen designer. I think there's an option on their website for them to help with the design though. Among other things I think they can keep their prices low because you (the customer) write up the cabinet numbers on the order form (which is very time consuming and tedious). But it saves them from having to do it. I'm not too worried about the online process or them sending the wrong cabinets. (Not saying it couldn't happen, I'm just willing to take that chance!) Curious to know other people's thoughts/experiences, too!...See MoreWhere do most of you buy your glass?
Comments (18)I have to get precut shapes so I have used ebay- Mothers Earth Gallery(precut borders & triangles), Mosaic Tile Mania(love their diamond shapes--have both regular store & ebay-greater selection at online store), bluerivermosaic on ebay(got some beautiful tumbled glass-she calls it beachglass--lovely colors), and on Etsy got some petal shapes and some special cut colored petal shapes from Faro along with the glass shards from Glasshack. Hope I didn't offend any of you that cut your own shapes, it's just that I thought this info might be useful to some that cannot cut their shapes. I know it's sometimes higher to buy this way, but if you just wanted to do a few pieces or if your're like me-I go "wholehog" into anything!- it might be useful infro.
