Stacey- No...as I mentioned in my first post, I got a wall-mounted one for about $400. You can see it in the picture I posted. I like a simple and clean look and the floor mounted ones look like fancy, exposed plumbing to me. If you can run your supply pipes up into the wall, all you need is the valve that's hidden in the wall, like a shower valve, and the spout and and handles that are surface mounted. l also like it because it doesn't take up space, and you don't have to worry about the structural issues that a floor mount sometimes requires,especially if you have to go through tile. My wall mount does go through wall tile, but I prefer that as it seemed easier than plumbing that has to go through and be secured to floor tile. Just my preference, but it made tub filling a whole lot cheaper. P.S.: I could have gotten a cheaper tub, but I preferred getting a name brand I had had good experiences with before. I'm sure that there are good quality tubs out there that sell for less than what I spent, but I'm not an expert on tub brands. I was simply happy spending $1620, as opposed to $3000-6000 locally.

Thank you Bruce. Unfortunately, I do not have a claw foot tub, mine goes to the floor and as I said, the edge where the tub meets the tile was sealed with a bead of silicone. So I can't look underneath. When I look at the pictures and diagram in the link I posted above, the red area is wider than the pipes, and this is where (in the drawing but not the photos) it looks like holes around the interior that We assumed were weep holes. The red area seems like it would catch any water that might leak if the leak was around the flange,Yes, this unit was installed into the subfloor floor from above, after the pipes were laid between the joists. So, we did not have to get access through the ceiling below which is what these drain connectors are designed to allow. We cannot see the water swirling as it leaks. These modern popup drains have large covers that prevent us from seeing anything. Even the flange is fully covered by the cover. One reason why we don't think it is the popup not sealing is that we have pushed hard on the popup when it is closed, and we still hear water draining. We also tried a white rubber drain plug instead of the popup and pushed hard on it too and still hear the water draining.

I agree getting in and out of a free standing tub is trully a PITA and if you did not bath before you won't now either. As for the tile sorry but honestly no matter what you choose it will always look like an add on. I agree to either leave the tub or prepare to do the whole floor . If you post a plan of the space done to scale maybe some ideas will pop up.

We recently had our first freestanding tub installed. I was there with my broom and mop when the plumber measured for placement to ensure both easily fit around all sides. Freestanding fillers take up more space than we had, so we selected a roman style tub filler. It could have gone on the shower's knee wall if we raised the wall a bit, but opted for exterior wall placement instead. (It rarely freezes where we live and this is 100% within code here.)
