DINING ROOM HELP! please

Hi! I would love some advice on filling up my dining room... I just painted my brick wall and my previous rug now doesn’t match/ is way too busy. Any advice on how to fill my room up or a rug recommendation that is not so busy is greatly appreciated. Rug suggestions, wall decor, buffet pieces, etc! (No curtains, please. I am keeping my valances)

Photoshop visual WELCOME I would love to see how to fill it up. Or if you don’t think I need a rug at all, let me know your thoughts. Thank you so much in advance !!!! Photos attached are all angles of my room

Nice room. Is there any room open with this one?

I could picture a softening faded rug... what color.

Thank you very much, everyone, for your nice comments and great ideas. I will try to respond to everything..... Painting the cabinet - this cabinet replaced a tall, narrower cabinet that was black. I liked the black in the room until we put this gold cabinet in. When I bought this gold one, I intended to paint it something else, however, the room feel so much larger and more open with a much lighter color cabinet. The black stops your eye rather abruptly. I'm not opposed to painting, but I will need to find the right color. The "stripes" in the back of the cabinet are actually beadboard. I will have to look at it closely, but I think even if I paint it, the striping will still be evident. But I see what you mean, ingrid, about it being repetitive of the chairs! We do have two of the blue chairs, and I originally intended to use them both there, but it feels really crowded. I thought to keep looking for some other style of chair where I can fit in two. I will look for rug, maybe some candlesticks - and possibly something more rustic for the mantle. The mirror finish is similar to the chandelier finish, but I think the mirror might look too contemporary or sleek with everything else. Will also play with the bird prints and see how they look stacked on one side with something else on the other. Sorry, my photos don't give a true picture of the room with the door open. AND, will work on the contents of the shelves. I don't LOVE what is down below, but the extra storage for my spare dishes has been nice. You've all given me some great homework, so I will do my best to continue making progress so your efforts were not in vain. ;) THANKS VERY MUCH!!

Hi Cheryl, You have a lovely kitchen and dining area! It's good to hear that you get plenty of use out of it, too. If I'm catching the pictures correctly, I think the two art pieces with blue would be one or the other on the wall and the grays with black stripe with be hung as a set. Let me know if I'm mis-interpreting. To me, the art piece on the left with blues would be interesting with your chandelier. You've got some other blues going on in the kitchen and the sitting area as well. It would be nice if it were bigger for the wall - maybe mounted on a bigger panel behind it? (Barn board or something like that?) Which art piece are you leaning towards? Hope some of that helps, Doug

Really simple slipcovers would do those chairs wonders. The chairs are a really nice shape - just a weird material. If they have a bumpy texture through the slipcovers, you could add cushions or batting underneath. That dark table will look phenomenal with light colored chairs and lighter walls around it. Maybe a nice cream or greige on the walls? For cabinets, with that dining table + light fixture combo, if you go light on the walls, chairs, and rug, you could get away with one or two of these in those corners. Add a lightly colored table runner and a nice centerpiece and the room would look quite stately while still modern and fresh. The painting on the wall is nice. It doesn't work in the current room. It would work in the room I'm proposing, but a lot of things would, so it's optional. I found thislink on Pinterest and it will give you an idea of the color scheme you'd end up with. And, I found this article which might be helpful to you in this process.

Depending on whether or not you drink wine, how much and whether that wall gets sun, a pair of short or tall wine racks — two columns — could work. You’d need to get the kind where one bottle lays sideways. You can get the kind made out of wine barrel staves, which would be handsome with your dark floor and lend an old world touch — but be careful to measure because these curve out a bit from the wall If you don’t drink all that much wine, then two of these Or this might be nice I happen to like this, but it means adding a slightly crazy modern touch to your Tuscan tranquility If you don’t like that idea, you could also do 2 pedestals with plants. Just be sure you secure the plants and the pedestals firmly so no one knocks them over moving around the table. I think a pair of these would look nice A floating wall shelf might be nice, but your artwork looks very long, and it might be difficult to find a floating shelf long enough. This one is 20”, and I’m not sure 2 would look right 24” 44” Not sure what you would put on a shelf. If it were me, I’d probably put doilies on the shelf with small bowls and saucers filled with olives, salt, other condiments, with little silver spoons in them....

you have a great dining room and love the feel of it. I would get a cowhide rug and then drapes for the window without the brick wall. for the wall.with the brick wall I would do a fabric shade.in thensame fabric as the curtains. the room doesnt need more than that IMO. I would remove the valance. the brick wall and furnishings you have give the room presence.

Soft rug would balance all the hard surfaces I meant. Idk if you need a rug necessarily. Maybe a faded rug would add bit of agd-history vibe to the brick and chairs. Are they new, or not -

Here are some more ideas. Put small corner cabinet in far corners to help warm up brick. Add fern stand with green plant or a console table keeping register clear with lamp and decor. Add more color. Turquoise would work well with earthy colors you have.

Sure. There are lots of feather pictures. I just used this one and flipped it for purposes of the mock up.

I'd leave the brick wall plain. Adding pictures and bookcases will clutter it when it's already a statement piece by itself. I'd recommend a rustic lodge rug like the one everdebz suggested.

I like the walnut color. It moderates your table and the brick. While the brick is nice, it is a bit too dominating so the small corner units give a finished touch to the wall. Almost like bookends at the ends of a stack of great books.

Maybe I’m overthinking- lol....

The bookshelf you put in the mock up is the distressed grey color. Here is the difference between walnut/ distressed grey.

You would still choose the walnut, right? Just making sure before I order. Thank you so much.
