direct wire led ucls /depth of junction box
Comments (3)It depends on the manufacturer. Having said that, the Philips eW profile setup is all under 1" in height- junction boxes that will be mounted on the cabinet undersides and the light bars....See MoreWhere to find power connectors for the LED under cabinet lights?
Comments (17)I don't think the connectors "flyingkite" was going to use would work. I believe they are a 6.3mm pitch. The parts used for the interconnecting cables are difficult to find in small quantities. Here is some generic information. The connectors have a 4.5mm pitch. Extraction Tool - Waldom W-HT-2285P .062" Use this to remove the pins/terminals from the connector housing. Just google the model number to find suppliers of your choice. The tool worked very well and did not damage the pins should you wish to re-insert them after removal. The pins/terminals are more difficult to find in small quantities, but there is a seller on Ebay named kikiwave who sold the 2 position and 3 position connectors, complete with male and female connector housings including the male and female terminals. There are 10 units in each set for under $6/set. I made a long link cable by cutting the longer AC plug cable to size, crimping on new terminals and inserting them into the appropriate connector. I shortened some other link cables in the same manner. Having purchased 4 LED lights, I had 4 AC plug cables and 4 link cables which provided enough stock parts so I never used any of the purchased housings, just the female pins. Crimping the pins onto the wire was a bit challenging. I did not have the exact tool required but I did achieve a good mechanical and electrical connection. The installation is much cleaner and neater with custom link and power cables....See MoreLV Undercab Lights - Junction Box?
Comments (10)Well, since this is apparently a low voltage installation, junction boxes are not required - but aesthetically make the installation look much more professional and just overall nicer looking (if you are looking up underneath somebody's cabinet). Unless local code has some sort of unusual stipulation, you could have just run 14 gauge CL2 in-wall wiring and stapled it up, which is very easy to work with rather than 14/2 NM Romex - especially if this is with low current LED lighting. I would just look around for some type of enclosure to hide the 14/2 NM to LED wiring connections, but if you can't find anything, it should not be a problem - unless, like I said you have some sort of usual local code that addresses low voltage under cabinet lighting....See Moreunder cabinet lights - lighting bar or led tape light?
Comments (6)Do your cabinets have molding (example) that is attached to the bottom of the cabinet box to hide any lights and wires you might attach there? If not, I'd use tape lights in a channel as that will be the shallowest solution (hide the required driver inside a cabinet). Otherwise, linkable light bars shallower than the molding would be a good solution. Be sure that whatever solution you choose is dimmable from a wall dimmer. I'd skip the lights under the cabinets. They'll just highlight the dirt on the kitchen floor....See Morewdccruise
