Thank you all for your responses. We don't really have a neighborhood to drive around in. I live in the woods way off the main street. The closest neighbor has a gray house and I'm not so much into gray for the house. I would love to have functioning shutters on the largest of windows. I think I'll look into that seeing that we are now in hurricane season again. I really do want all the shutters to be functioning but I'll have to see what the cost is. I would love to find some really old shutters and have them refurbished. natel, your link sent me to an error page :-(. mimi, I do love your color combination. I think I'm going to the BM store tomorrow and check out different whites. I like the idea of 3 different white colors on the house. But then I think of the mildew and green mold I wash off twice a year...

myfoursquare - Thank you again! It's way easier to see your way than having them tipped up by the windows on the bottom. I really don't know if I like them. I'm kind of on the fence. Hubby likes your pic, but he also likes the white band with it which would maybe be too much. I think we should wait too until I can get to the door. We did have them before the house was resided and I just got tired of them and was happy to see them go even though they added a little "something" to the house. Thanks for the feedback on the trim. We can't take the door off in this weather to paint it in the garage (it's 6 degrees here this morning why do I live here?!)so it may be awhile before we can paint and post a pic, but I will do it.

I agree with the suggestions to paint the areas around the windows a taupe (tan/gray) to tone them down. The white is so stark that it immediately draws your eye to the second floor. I'm going to respectfully disagree with Tina, I don't think a metal roof is appropriate for your home. In my community a number of people have put metal roofs on ranch style homes. If you're a farmhouse, coastal, etc. then the metal roofs look good, but they're not for every style home. If you're going to keep storm doors then I would do a full glass style and paint your front doors for a pop of color. I wouldn't spend money to stain the front steps. No, the house does not need them. And I'm saying this as someone who loves shutters and would opt to keep them a lot of the time when the pros on here are hollering to take 'em down. I like your window choice. Adding shutters would start clutter up the look.
