PICS! Yellow house, green roof, what color shutters???
Comments (46)I would make friends with your local nursery, take photos of the house with you and simply be honest with them. Tell them you are an very happy new home owner, overwhelmed, don't know anything about gardening/landscaping but you really could use some help to come up with a 3/5 year landscaping plan. A lot of nursery owners will come to your house free as long as you purchase a plant or two. (huge help) Start with a tree in between garage windows. Plant it at least 5 feet from house. (make it an anniversary gift so it starts memories/roots for the two of you) Plant other trees or more expensive special plants on important dates as they come, children, promotions, birthdays... Definitely go slow, but you will be amazed at how far a couple hundred dollars can go. Hang some plants on the porch it will fill in and soften the porch area. Don't forget winter color too, like red twig dogwoods, willows, --- Lastly, paint that front door a fun color that you love! ;-) Enjoy & Good luck!!...See MoreWhat color shutters would work with the yellow siding?
Comments (32)Thanks squirrelheaven!! I really like the darker roof and the last two pictures. Just need to save some money for a new roof! In the mean time we'll work on some landscaping to make it prettier and work with the brown roof. Your time and effort is really appreciated!! Comments (11)Your brick is a really beautiful blend of colors. I'd let that be the star feature of your house instead of trying to overwhelm it with paint color. Your house is formal, so dress it up with subtle accessory colors. For bright color, depth, & texture, talk to a landscape designer and do something special with the yard. I like this Certainteed Landmark Old Overton shingle with your brick. It's a soft black/gray blend without a blue cast. And I couldn't get it right in this mock up -- waaay to bright & not the right shade -- but I think an off-white would work really well with the bricks. Something soft & antique looking, a white with a hint of putty. The door -- I've used a dark blue here, which is just ok. Perhaps strip the door & stain it a rich wood color? A super high gloss black would look good too. Or a super high gloss in your trim color, perhaps a shade darker, would be sophisticated, especially if you pump up the landscaping. Trimming the shrub by the door would have big visual impact too....See MoreWant to brighten up our new home! Purchased red door. Shutter color??
Comments (65)Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I just learned about a company that makes a product for staining brick that I thought you might like to know about. The company is called Masonry Cosmetics and you can buy a DIY kit for just $119 that looks like it is enough to do the front of your home. The guy emphasizes it's not a paint, so you're not going to experience any cracking or fading or peeling like you could if you whitewashed or painted the brick. What got my notice is you can lighten the brick, not just darken it! Click on their name for some before and afters. It still looks like brick - not painted brick. All the natural variations in the brick are still there! Also, to answer your question above - if your windows or wooden, they can be painted. Many houses have vinyl windows that cannot be painted - those are typically white or cream....See MoreLLMick
