I recommend that you look at the room as a whole instead of in pieces. Make an overall plan before you go further. For the paint color, get several small paint pots, paint foam boards (dollar store), and put them on different walls. Here are just some of the factors you need to consider with wall color: natural or artificial light in the morning, midday, evening. In my opinion, the lighting is a concern. Ceiling lights generally don't do anyone any favors in a living room. Much better is a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height.

On my screen, it doesn't seem to mesh well with the other tones in the space, and does have a soft, minty quality that's probably not what you had in mind. How much of the room is painted this color, and what kind of feel are you wanting to accomplish in the space?

only what you see is painted so far...I did not want it to be that "bright" and definitely more of a green hue.

It’s very hard to recommend a paint color online and to even comment on what we are seeing because we may not be seeing it accurately. If this looks like I think it does I don’t love it either but there are other concerns when choosing a color in this space. There are so many different wood tones in here I can’t even count them all so the cool tone in the paint color just seems to highlight that! This room would look more cohesive if you only had a couple wood tones !

Agreed! We bought our townhouse this year and I thought the same thing...I like the floors but not the trim or built in wood tones

Consider painting the outside rim of the mirror/picture frame a dark bold (flag) blue and painting the inside band the same light blue as the wall.

Consider adding a tiny bit of red and white and blue to your wreath... or you could just remove the wreath.

(Really like your coffee table with its rounded end -- no pointed knee knocker. )

I just looked up your color in my SW fan deck. It’s a pretty beach cottage blue/ green color completely inappropriate grit your room!

the color before was the same color as the built ins...I think I'm just gonna go back to the original color...trying to find the "right" color is too much thinking for my noodle right now. I wish the decor was more beachy without it looking too kitschy. I live about a mile from the oceanfront.

These may be a place to start. They seem gray but can look a bit green too.

If you want it beachy; keep your wall color and paint all that mismatched wood including the fireplace white!

You have three different colors on adjacent surfaces where one likely would be preferable.

If you like the blue wall above the fireplace, consider painting the bookshelves the same color and finding a rug with that color in it. Whatever color you eventually choose, rug aside, at least keep the same color for all painted surfaces all across that wall.

If you like your rug, you might consider using the same gray color for all across that wall.

The color beneath your mantel and on your built in shelves appears to have a pink hue. If you could use the hearth medium blueish/gray for the space above the mantel, it wouldn't need to match the color of the wall and bookshelves.

Would want the wall and bookshelves the same color even if you use two different shades -- one darker and the other lighter.

agreed! before the blue it was all the same color and made the room appear larger..as soon as I painted it blue it instantly looked smaller and I instantly regretted it

The floors are very nice but I don’t see anything special about the other woodwork in the room. It’s all mismatched anyway. Since you live in a beach community and you like and want a beach type look in here just paint all that mismatched wood a nice white!

You can paint the back of the shelves your wall color. Paint that trim on the hearth to match your floor.

I would paint the mantel and shelves all trim a shade of white. I also would get high heat black paint to cover up the old brass on the fireplace

I painted my kitchen 3 times and bought 5 different colors of paint - nuts I know but I learned a lot. Never go with the paint chip. Computer painted rooms won't help either since it's not your room. The color will look different depending on natural light, bulbs being used and the color of the surfaces in the room it reflects off of. It will also look different at different times of the day. If you are up to it, buy paint samples. Get yourself the largest poster board you can find and paint several of them with your choices. Move the boards around the room during different times of day. I tried one light grey color that looked purple in the evening - not a look I wanted. You may want to try different light bulbs. We ended up swapping our ours for 5000K. Warm lighting made our cream cabinets look yellow. I would paint that wood woodwork white in a heart beat.

If you want beachy, paint all the wood built ins white. Including fireplace surround. Use satin finish. BM Chantilly Lace is clean white.

These colors look good with the wood. Last photo is peppercorn and White Dove Cabinets. Painting mantle and trim and and updating with new mirror would make a huge difference. Happy designing.

Your current shelving color (at least on my screen) appears to match the color between firebox and mantel. If you don't want blue shelving but want to keep the blue wall, there is something else you might consider instead of having more of any painted wall, especially if you prefer the look of real wood and, budget permitting, of course: Remove the bottom shelf and put doors over the shelves left above that -- IF you can get a match. If a wood match is not available, you might get a price quote for new doors for both the upper shelves and the cabinets below.
