Comments (17)Update: I know you've been sitting up nights wondering how these beds turned out. Well, here are my newly re-arranged hosta beds, assisted (of course) by the wisdom of this forum. : ) I really like these combinations much better just in terms of aesthetics. Hopefully the placement for sun is improved also. Left side: Gypsy Rose. Center bottom: Rainforest Sunrise Right side: ??? Kind of an everyday nondescript hosta that has been growing there for at least a decade or more. What do you think? Something like Albomarginata? (Hope I spelled that right.) You can see the shadow of the house receding as the sun moves into its afternoon position. Bottom: Cathedral Windows Top: A division of a hosta I've had for decades. I think it might be Gold Standard. These two will get a fair amount of sun in the afternoon. This is a different spot in the gardens. It gets morning sun, and shade or dappled shade in the afternoon. I think the solid green added in here was a great idea. Center of the pic, to left of red flower: Great Expectations Right side: Decades-old hosta, probably Gold Standard???? Bottom: Another decades-old hosta, probably plantaginea--given this sunshiny place, per your recommendations. Left bottom and left top: Decades-old hosta which we ID-ed as Shade Fanfare. Touch of Class--with a new red clematis planted behind it. This hosta is located several feet away (other side of a path) from the hosta in the previous picture. I'm satisfied. Just need to finish putting out the mulch. Thanks everyone for your help. Kate...See MoreWe're almost finished & I'm going nuts ... I need to commiserate!
Comments (11)It certainly can be done...the tile will take the longest, then the hardwoods, carpet takes no time. If your builder gets it all lined up right...ANYTHING can be done. One day, I was at the house and there were about 6 guys doing base and crown, 2 master carpenters doing the fireplace overmantle, panel jambs, wainscoting and all of the built ins in the closet, a guy working on installing the cabinets, and painters working on the exterior! It was crazy, there was a circular saw going in almost every room! BUT...like post above said, it may very well take a little longer. Just mentally prepare yourself. You are so close!! We are about 5 weeks out and while I can't wait to live in our new house...I start hyperventilating thinking about all we have to do between now and then. But it WILL get finished! When the going gets tough...focus on some aspect of your house that your love and think about that. There are things in our layout that would have been nice to change...but it is so much nicer and better suited to our family than our old house! I am focusing on all the positives. Best of luck to you! So exciting!...See MoreI'm new and so is my kitchen! Help with layout!
Comments (37)Three things about the space...I think the fridge does work best by the main sink, especially if the table is over there, too. The prep sink on the island is FOR the cooktop/range. Without it, you don't have a very functional kitchen. I think the island works best opposite the cooktop, but maybe just a bit smaller. The desk should be in the kitchen, IMHO, but not in the main work zones. By changing the island slightly and moving a stool to the end, you are no longer all lined up and it will be easier to visit with the cook and each other. Also, the desk chair should be the same height as the table chairs...that way you can move it over for extra seating, when needed. The banquette will give you MUCH more seating, because people can squeeze in, where chairs would take more room. Having the banquette on one side only, makes it easier for people to access and with outdoor fabric, a breeze to clean up. There are some beautiful outdoor fabrics (that look like indoor) that would be perfect for the banquette, cushions, chairs, etc. Oh, and I think the banquette will allow you to sit in the sun and take full advantage of the windows and view...although the windows will have to be a little higher from the floor, for the banquette. Hope this helps :) From Kitchen plans One more thing...why is the laundry door opening out? It would probably make more sense to swing into the room, against that right side (away from sink) but can't see entire space. Comments (93)Tami, there's probably a lot of ladies that want to avoid your diet, lol! LPink, I think you and I could go to one of those restaurants that serve huge portions and share a dish with no problem. As I read your post, I was thinking uh huh, yep that's me, to everything. Although I do love cheese and put it on almost everything myself, and Chipotle is fine in small doses. Love cilantro, hate iceburg lettuce, and would feel cheated if I paid for a salad and all I got was a wedge of iceburg lettuce with some creamy dressing on it. Rachelellen, I appreciate your efforts at the restaurant you worked at. I've never eaten anywhere that was pricey enough to stack their food. The grocery store I shop at the most puts two, count en, two stickers on their organic produce. One is the upc code one with the name of the fruit. The other just says organic. When I shop for those products, I peel the organic stickers off and stick them on the display. I don't want to have to deal with extra stickers at home, and the other stickers have the price on them, so I'm not trying to cheat them. As for the checkers not knowing what the produce is, watch out when you're checking out. I purchased some leafy red lettuce one day at Wally World, and had to argue with the checker that no, it's not Romaine. The checker in the next aisle heard our argument, looked over, and confirmed that I was correct. Turned out the twist tie thing that had the price on it was incorrect, so whomever wrapped them up for sale didn't know what they were doing, either. Cathy, I guess many of us are airing pet peeves, as well as what we're so over. Oh, here's another one I haven't heard mentioned. I'm so over loud, loud loud restaurants. Turn the volume down, please! And have either the t.v. or the music off - they don't both need to be on. Sally...See Morehappy2b…gw
