You haven’t mentioned the bump out that will not allow the bed to be placed against the wall!!! What is the measurement between the window and what size bed do you own? Do you really want to place your head over the baseboard heat during the winter? That’s a problem.

Thank you Beverly and Patricia for your thoughts! I'm so grateful that you'd take the time to help me. Great point about the baseboard heat. I've never lived outside CA before so I'm not familiar with baseboard heating.

We have a king size bed, but I don't yet know the measurement between the windows b/c we haven't moved in yet.

But it sounds like either way, we need to keep the bed where it is? It kills me that the headboard is covering some of the only direct light into the room. Any thoughts on how to mitigate this? I'll remove those drapes too.

Lastly, thoughts on the moulding conundrum? And if/where wallpaper should go?

Maybe after you move in we can see the other two walls in your bedroom, along with a floor plan that has measurements. That would help us help you. What about putting the bed on the left wall that has the pictures hung on it? As for the "crown;" if it really is crown, you could replicate it on the other side of the room. You can do it more cheaply by mimicking the pattern of it with trim pieces put together to get the look. Look for DIY faux crown online. Maybe this was originally two rooms that someone opened up. You could treat the crowned section as a tray ceiling and repeat that on the other side too. Not many Houzzers are big wallpaper fans and I can't advise on that. Move in, prime the walls so there is no color distraction and pull out your bedding so we can help you find the right paint color.

1) picture is pretty small but I don't think you have crown molding -- you have some kind of soffit that is probably enclosing structural stuff.

2) it's a hazard to put textiles up against baseboard heaters like that -- can catch fire.

3) wallpaper is only going to bring out the structural irregularities here. I'd pick a light paint color that you like and paint all surfaces (walls, ceiling, soffits) the same color. accent with your rug, art, bedding, etc.

4) would consider removing the box valences -- they're just adding to the sense of rectangular jumble, and removing them will make the windows feel bigger without altering the function of your window treatments.

I would attempt to remove the partial 'crown molding'. I would paint a single color on the walls and ceiling to reduce the demarcation between the two.

I might try to place the bed against the wall without any windows. From what I can see this should work. Can you draw out a floorplan of the room with measurements and locations of the doors and windows?

Did you check that the home has AC?
