What color above the fireplace?
Comments (6)Do you plan to put art over your fireplace? Because I think that would suffice, unless you have a particular piece in mind and want to bring it out more. Don't see other reasons to accent that spot. It is pretty enough. And it's open, it's part of a big wall. Which doesn't mean you can't paint it differently. After all you're there, and I'm not. Sometimes one just falls in love with a color and wants to use it-I know because it happenned to me, and I did use it-but it was an easier place to accent. Or maybe you can paint a smaller space you want to paint anyway, like a powder bath, and use Urban Bronze or another color that's deep and evocative. If the room was small I'd give different advice maybe but it seems too big to pull off being painted all dark. In any case-I personally would paint everything one lighter color, (and tint the ceiling with it accordingly-it has many angles etc..I would try to have less contrast between ceiling and walls), what color-hard to know until one makes samples and looks at them in different light..it might turn out to be Revere Pewter, or not. And I wouldn't worry about blue-it's easy to bring it in accessories, small accent pieces of furniture, fabrics, etc. You won't need to match precisely future color of kitchen cabinets, just go with the same "warmth" of blue and vary it-lighter, darker, different materials that reflect light differently and seem similar but different because of that-, so it won't read too flat and too matched, but layered and interesting....See MoreFreshly painted in FB Stone Blue, what color to paint fireplace?
Comments (8)Hmm, thank you for all the suggestions. The black trim is certainly going, even if painted or washed in the same color. I may consider the light grey wash for the near future to keep a natural but modern look. I will certainly take the advice of not painting with much of a sheen as well if thats the route I go. I really like the idea of building a wood surround and painting that white, but I do wonder about the color of the hearth remaining black if i then go about painting the wood trim surround white. I came accross this which inspired me to have a black fireplace, but i suppose it is a different look than what is already there. I was hoping to keep the cost down, but its not put of the question for a diy job or maybe adding it to the wish list down the line. As far as decoration- i do like the boho style, but my choice of decoration hasnt been leaning that way and it would clash. I do like the yellow though. Last, but not least, when the kids grow up more in a few years, i am flirting with the idea of moving the coffee table into the family room & play around with a different coffee table to better fit the room and fireplace if needed. Anyway Anyway, thanks again. Any other suggestions would be appreciated....See MoreHelp, what colour tiles for fireplace surround
Comments (8)@Patricia Colwell @Beverly Pellet stove is on tracks and can easily be rolled out. We then can replace the tiles and hide the old fireplace. Hmm, mayb its just me and i need to get used to the existng black tile. We then can continue same tile around the stove. Or add MDF just below the black tile tile, paint it White same as surround. @Sammie J Hi Sammie, thank you for replying. the black metal is the old fireplace and coukd not be removed without destroying the entire wall. It will be covered up. We are trying to decide on best way to do this. See my response to @Patricia Colwell and @Beverly...See MoreWhat size artwork over fireplace mantel
Comments (10)I know there are strong differences of opinion on this site about mirrors, but I like them above fireplaces to bounce light and because they can kind oh be a neutral, especially next to built-ins that have stuff on them. You have a lot of square shapes going on. I’d try an oval mirror or one that is maybe plat oh the bottom but rounded/curvey on top. Whatever you choose, stand back and take a look at restyling the built-ins after you get it up there....See MoreEsther Parra
