I just finished up a room with Timid White and I like it a lot. I don't like bright whites at all. I usually go with very very off white creamy (bone white), but this room I wanted something whiter. I tested Linen White and found it too white for my taste, even though the color swatch cards of the two were incredibly close. Timid white is white enough to appear as white, not cream, but softer than bright white. It is off-white enough that when I first put it up against the bright white primed walls, I was afraid it was too off-white, but it wasn't when the walls were painted (a camel tan color). One thing about (almost) white trim I am finding out is that it is hard to select outlet covers. The white ones are too white (and make the almond outlets stand out). The almond outlet covers go with the outlets but do not go with the trim. I was lucky to find some outlet covers that were in between and they are okay with each (but match neither). I do trim in Satin. Also, cloud White is a popular white too. I don't have personal experience with it though.

My kitchen cabinets are being painted BM Dove White as I type this now, by the cabinet maker, my hubby! My walls are acadia white. We have a lot of windows, so always lots of natural light pouring in. I loved the soft white of the Dove White. I know some people have posted that it is too drab or dingy compared to some other whites, but it works in our light filled kitchen. I can't wait to be able to post pics soon. This is a long process, never realized how much work goes into building cabinets. Now I know why they chew up so much the budget.

Or is it better to continue using Chantilly but in a different finish? This. Definitely this. The rule of thumb for white on white is the white trim color must have less Chroma than the wall color - difference needs to be 0.20 (ish). Chantilly Lace, although it isn't the whitest-most-white-white in Benjamin Moore or over all, has a really low Chroma value, 0.27. You would need a color of white with a Chroma of 0.07 (ish). And there isn't one. Which means there is no way to put Chantilly Lace on walls and pair it with another white on the trim that will look bright, clean and crisp juxtaposed to Chantilly. Chantilly will make another bright, clean, crisp white on the trim look dingy. So, your only option since Chantilly is on the walls and you want white trim too, is to use Chantilly in a different gloss/sheen on the trim. Gloss/sheen in paint colors comes from the pigment volume/resin ratio, not from colorants. Even tho gloss/sheen does affect the way a color appears, it's more about the ratio of ingredients, not color attributes. Which is why one color in different gloss/sheen levels will look different but amazingly, miraculously the color of the different finishes always go together.

Paint colors are notoriously variable, even when you hold things like brand and product constant. I have three cans of BM paint right now that are all ostensibly the same color but were mixed by two different shops and they are all a bit different, even though that's a machine with a formula doing the mixing. It is also possible that they got the color wrong for yours--the color names are quite similar if it is in fact the Extra White, and I've found at our local paint shops that many of the staff have the codes in their head for the many whites and will key them in when you tell them the name, so there's room for human error too even if your painter said "Pure White." I'd take a cabinet door to the paint shop and have them match the color, and then repaint the trim in that shade. Without the cans of paint in hand, it's hard to know if the current color is the wrong one or, if it is, whose fault that is. (If it's a large painting company they may have an account at the paint store with a record of the color they purchased, but that's a bit of a long shot, and you'd still somehow need to get a sample of the color on the trim in for them to check.)
