We did our ceilings, crown, and baseboards in Lily of the Valley. I can go look up the number on the can tomorrow if you would like. It is a really pretty, soft, creamy white. The moulding is semi-gloss and the ceiling is flat finish.

I've just spent three days finishing up a ceiling in our 1905 Victorian... in BM Burnt Peanut Red. My neck is sore :-)

I've actually been thinking about trim colour. So far, all the wood is stripped to it's "aged fir" colour... brown. It is tempting to paint it all red (though I'd do it glossy, where the ceiling is a flat finish), because with 10 foot ceilings it's like all the nice decor is overhead and I want to bring some down to eye level. The walls are just a light yellow (BM Butter Milk, goes with the border at picture rail height but is a bit insipid). My problem is that I'm not sure I want the trim to be dark.

So maybe, to match or not to match depends on the nature of the colour you're choosing. And of course, what your other options are. I also have a nice green colour in the border that I can use, or an ugly tan. Or I can leave the wood clear. Similarly, you'll have a few options to choose from, and what looks good in my case might be an inferior choice for you.

I'm using BM Affinity color "Marscapone" for trim in our new house--just a little warmer cream (like the color of Half-and Half, maybe) than Cotton Balls, but still much whiter than, say, Linen White. Really beautiful color on test boards, I'll let you know when it's on the trim. I'm wondering about favorite ceiling colors as well. I've never used anything but "ceiling white" before. I just chose BM "Mayonnaise" (seriously bad name for seriously beautiful color!) as a ceiling color that should read just slightly yellower/darker than the Marscapone trim. I'm crossing my fingers. I really liked Lily of the Valley, too, but it was too close to one of my (C2) wall colors. Mayonnaise is very close to Restoration Hardware's "Buttermilk" for those who know it (not to be confused with their Buttercream).

I'm using Acadia White and loving it. It's going well with my caliente red foyer, my blue living room, straw hall, and now pilgrim foliage in my kitchen!Will it work with my lime green bathroom ? We will see.

I just did a blend of 50% Linen White and 50% Decorator's White and it looks great. It would be more of a grayed white the Acadia or Marscapone. I used semi on the trim and flat on the ceiling and it's a nice warm, slightly creamy white.

I just finished up a room with Timid White and I like it a lot.

I don't like bright whites at all. I usually go with very very off white creamy (bone white), but this room I wanted something whiter.

I tested Linen White and found it too white for my taste, even though the color swatch cards of the two were incredibly close. Timid white is white enough to appear as white, not cream, but softer than bright white.

It is off-white enough that when I first put it up against the bright white primed walls, I was afraid it was too off-white, but it wasn't when the walls were painted (a camel tan color).

One thing about (almost) white trim I am finding out is that it is hard to select outlet covers. The white ones are too white (and make the almond outlets stand out). The almond outlet covers go with the outlets but do not go with the trim. I was lucky to find some outlet covers that were in between and they are okay with each (but match neither).

I do trim in Satin.

Also, cloud White is a popular white too. I don't have personal experience with it though.

Definitely not. I sometimes paint the ceiling a bit lighter color than the wall color. Even when I do some type of "white" ceiling, I do not match the trim. A medium to dark ceiling in a room with high ceilings is a great decorating opportunity.

I have used BM Cloud White for all the wood trim in our house; BM Mayonnaise for the ceilings. It is open area, but he living room is much darker ( north facing in the grey Pacific Northwest) so 2 walls are BM Sugar Cookie, and the other 2 are BM Mountain Air, a really soft grey/green. In the kitchen - dining room I have used BM Provence, which is a pale yellow, the colour of butter. Believe it or not, the colours all seem to go together quite well. I really love that Mayonnaise for the ceiling, it is just creamy white enough.

Mojo23, I'm going to be painting the ceiling in my kitchen soon so I'm starting to pay attention to ceiling colors. Do you have any pictures that show your ceilings and your trim together? I'm intrigued by the idea of a whiter trim and creamier ceiling.
