Help! Going crazy choosing towel racks, light fixtures, etc.
Comments (22)I've mixed brands of polished nickel, and am very happy with how it's turned out. In one bath I have a Pottery Barn quad sconce (discontinued; got it on ebay), Kohler faucets, a Ginger Chelsea grab bar and knobs and tank lever from Lowes. We're finishing the master bath now, and have Hansgrohe Retroaktiv polished nickel faucets, another Ginger grab bar (love it), and the Asbury triple sconce from Restoration Hardware. The sconce is not big in scale at all, and is over a 42" vanity. We like both sconces with lights pointing up so we don't look at the bulbs. Three 60-watt bulbs is plenty, and we have two can lights near the toilet/shower area. I'm using hooks for towels instead of bars, and found polished nickel ones at Lowes that I really like; they match the drawer knobs and tank lever that I'm also using. They're all traditional in style, and all go together really well. I don't think anyone would criticize that they are not from the same company. Good luck! Comments (6)We recently installed $2.99/sq. ft. natural walnut travertine tiles from Home Depot in several areas of our home, including a jack-and-jill bath for our girls. It is a large scale tile (I think 16x16 or 18x18) and we laid it in a simple brick, or running bond, pattern. So far, we couldn't be happier. Almost nothing shows on it, it has cleaned up great, the natural color variation is beautiful and it looks very rich. We used a fairly dark grout and 1/8th inch spacing. For paint, we used Duron's Tobacco Road formula mixed at Sherwin Williams and I bought pre-fab granite countertops at an auction for $75 each (we have one 48" vanity and one 42"). Creamy white trim mouldings and cabinets, fluffy white towels and chrome fixtures for a little sparkle...it's really nice! Go check it out at your local HD. Comments (15)Lovely combination of fabrics and colors. Just a thought - are they stain-resistant, and are they washable? Babies are known for messes from both ends, and dry-cleanable fabrics could be an issue. The one other thought I have on the fabrics is that I would do the window seat cushion in the darker coral solid, with perhaps the polka dot for welting, which will create nice continuity with the insides of the cubbies and bulkhead. Then I would use the polka dot, stripe, and floral for the throw pillows, doing one side of each in the prints, and the other in a solid, for more interest. The flat plane of the window cushion wonÂt give you the same impact in the prints that the pillows will. I would do the crib skirt in the stripe, with box pleats inset with the solid fabric. As for the wall color, I would be inclined to go for a very pale shade of the coral or the green, rather than white....See MoreNeed help with lighting over kitchen - how many lights, switch?, etc.
Comments (1)@jessicabaskerville, Given the extra ceiling height, your open area plan, and overall island size I suggest using 3 pendants of the size you're currently considering. See attached image for approximate layout. Keep the height so anyone standing at the island can see through to other spaces un-obstructed by the base of the pendants. The island pendants should be on a separate dimmer for better overall control of kitchen lighting. Also, be careful of your bulb choice since bare bulbs will produce some glare (another reason to use a separate dimmer). Please post pics when your project is completed....See Moredarbuka
