Towel warmer/towel rack questions
Comments (8)Eric, I just leave the bath towels on the warmer all the time. It would be a bit of a hassle remembering to move them back and forth. Smaller hand towels and the bath mat hang on other towel bars or rings. I have the Runtal automatic controller. It allows you to program different on and off cycles for each day of the week, multiple on and off cycles per day, and to control the temperature setting. Since I'm a creature of habit, the week days are all programmed the same, but at the weekend, the warmer comes on later and goes off later, as I tend to get moving later on those days. If my schedule deviates from normal, I can easily override the programming. The warmers in my guest rooms are programmed to be on in the mornings and again in the evenings, but off during the middle of the day. When I don't have guests, I simply set the temperature to "0", and they don't come on at all. The controllers are hidden away in cupboards or closets, where they're out of sight, but easily accessible, so their appearance wasn't a consideration. If you choose to go with a Lutron timer, be sure it's one rated for a heating appliance, and be aware that it probably won't provide as much flexibility or allow you to control the temperature level. I usually don't operate my warmers at their highest setting, and I appreciate being able to lower the settings on them during the warmer seasons. I've been totally happy with Runtal and recommend them....See MoreI want to go 'Towel Bar Free' in Bathroom
Comments (122)Ha, Stinky! My DH is..."slow to change". He does the exact same thing in the exact same order every morning and gets all out of sorts when he is forced to make accommodations. I've only been married 4 years, but I've learned it is much easier to change the environment than try to force change by direction. He just digs in his heels. Example: about 6 months ago I wanted to hire housekeeper. DH said it was unnecessary. I dropped the idea for a few months. I then started talking about how the dog got lonely during the day when we are at work and how nice it would be if someone would come keep her company. And now, we have a housekeeper who walks the dog..! I don't think I'm being sneaky or devious, but now we are both happy. Sometimes a different approach is needed. He may say the same things about me. But anyway, that's a long explanation of why simply telling DH that he is making a mess by wadding up the towels on the bars won't work. So having hooks may be my way around it. Back to topic, though, I was thinking of something like these from RH? Do they look like the towel would stay on well?...See MoreHELP! Comments (7)I can feel your pain; I need to add a fixture over my dining table and in our foyer and I can't decide either. I do like both of those you are considering. The RH one does seem very industrial; is that an element you want to add to the room? The PB one is great. I have pendant lights with glass shades, and they do show every speck of dust unless kept obsessively clean; would that be a problem? This is a "warm" farmhouse feel to me, do you like a fixture like this one? Or is it too rustic?...See MoreChoosing allowance items - books, websites, etc for help?
Comments (30)You absolutely can learn to make great selections for your home. And have everything go together. You just need a time machine to start learning it about 8 years ago. Absent that, the best you can do is to create a whole home mission statement, and then judge your selections against that statement. That’s your thesis. Each paragraph of your thesis is a room. Each room has a topic sentence. It has to support itself, and support the thesis. You will make expensive mistakes. It’s unavoidable. You can’t learn enough in a short time to not make major mistakes. The dollar amount of the mistakes would likely pay for the expert help that you’re too stubborn to choose to have help you. Do you have to learn how to build a car on an assembly line in order to enjoy driving it? If you only care about just a few things, then why are you wasting your time picking out all the things that you don’t care about? Why not have your 10 Things form the framework of design for the whole, and let the expert take those and create a whole out of your parts? Why make yourself miserable digging dandelions out of your grass when you hate lawns? Why not hire a lawn service, and never even have think about it again? Much less hand dig weeds?...See Morebluekitobsessed
