I probably have stranger, but I have to admit yours don't call out to me. :)

One I've mentioned before is TJ's roasted peeled chestnuts perfectly matched to Bubbe's bread and butter (very sweet) pickle chips. It's completely bizarre, but a combination which holds up over time. It doesn't work with lesser pickle chips. I call Bubbe's "sugar pickles". Without that blast of extreme sugar, it's just wet chestnuts.

Oh. Another weird one is bananas with jalapeño cheddar, but that's mostly because I get bored with bananas unless they're at perfect bananainess and will try anything to make them different. :)

Bragu, my Mother adored peanut butter/onion sandwiches. She could only have them when my Dad was out of town (he hated onions) as he complained that he could smell it on her breath for days :rolleyes: I eat bologna sandwiches with a slice of tomato and homemade mayo on one side - and Hunt's Catsup on the other. I know, it makes no sense but ... I like it!

2nd day leftover pot roast sandwich on white bread spread with cold gravy instead of mayonaise.....
Kraft sandwich spread (I know!!!) on white bread with swiss cheese and sweet pickles.

A wrap or sandwich made with tuna salad and hummus. I learned this from Ina Garten and thought it sounded a bit strange, but I trusted her, and since I often have these ingredients at the same time, I tried it and liked it.

I frequently spread bean dip or puréed pinto beans on a bolillo to make a turkey torta with avocado, but this is quite common in Mexico.

A pot roast sandwich with cold gravy sounds pretty normal to me.

Linda, yours may be unusual, but they both sound appetizing to me (though I haven't tasted the Kraft spread, which I'm assuming is like others, though maybe sweeter). :)

I've gotten funny looks for eating a hot dog (Nathan's or Hebrew national) with cheez whiz, mustard and homemade potato salad on top. It's good! I usually just do cheez whiz on the bun and mustard on top. But if I HAVE the potato salad, it goes on there too. But only MY potato salad.

I cant tell if the looks are for the potato salad, the cheez whiz, or both. Either way, I am unbothered.

rockypointdog, I've eaten cold baked beans sandwiches my whole life, and I love 'em still. I use a slice of squishy white bread and fold that in half, better than a hot dog bun although that works too.

Peanut butter and Miracle Whip, I learned that one from my Aunt Beatrice, also when I was a child, and I still eat them occasionally.

Canned asparagus roll ups. Trim the crusts off squishy white bead slices. Butter the bread and place one canned asparagus spear on one edge of the bread. Roll up and eat.

I don't know if this is a strange concoction, but for lunch today, I made a "Reuben" burrito with a flour tortilla, mustard, Swiss cheese, ham and Italian salami (because I didn't have pastrami), and sauerkraut. I wanted to make this so that I could use some of the sauerkraut that I made in something hot. It came out really good, and it was easier to eat than a regular sandwich. I made the sauerkraut with caraway seeds, and so it did have at least that much of the rye bread flavor. I do have rye bread, but I wanted to try making it as a burrito, as that is easier for me to make.

I often make a ham, cheese, and mushroom burrito (with black pepper), but I do not consider that strange at all - I've been making them for decades. For breakfast, I add a one egg omelet to it.

Lars’ post reminds me that I make sushi with a filling (besides the rice) of thin strips of roast beef mixed through with chutney, and thin strips of spring onion. I’ll eat raw fish but it’s not my favourite.

Some cooking program that happened on said to pair manchego cheese with chocolate almond candy. Must say it was different but a really pleasant combo. I also like cheddar with dill pickles, or sweet pickles, no crackers needed.

Sandwiches:

Cold leftover salt pork from Boston Baked Beans sliced with butter and catsup slathered on the bread. This is from my mother and was a staple for her family during the Depression.

Tuna salad made with minced celery and sweet onion, diced pickles (sweet or dill depending on the day) and mayo on white bread topped with Cape Cod chips.

Peanut butter and shredded raw carrots sandwich. Alas, no more peanut butter in the house as grandson is allergic.

Misc.:

Steamed little neck clams dunked in a mixture of melted butter and cider vinegar.

I don't think this is very weird, compared to some of these, but I get funny looks when eating it. I like apple pie with melted cheddar cheese. I like it more than ice cream or whipped cream. Maybe because I grew up in New England and everyone we knew ate it that way. My DH of 43 years still thinks it's weird.

Caflowerluver, it's not everybody's choice--not mine though I love cheese--but there's nothing weird about apple pie with cheddar. It's a total American classic.

Ok, in a rash moment I put a pickle on a corner of my peanutbutter bread. I wouldn't say it was bad, just not something that appealed to me. Next I'll try the Mayo.... Best Foods only. ;-)

Also love a baked bean sandwich....but the beans must be mashed.....and there must be pickles.
