It's not that difficult to place a temporary 3/4" plywood counter and a cheapo sink from Craigslist or Habitat Restore.

Whether the difference in the edge is worth $1000 is up to you.

I would personally take the $1000 & move on with my life. Sounds like it's not worth beating your head against the wall over & over for nothing.

If you ordered it from Home Depot, and the order says a 'flat edge'. Then HD has to deliver, or you get your money back. It doesn't matter who HD subcontracts to - you have a contract with HD.

A $1000 discount, would buy something nice for your kitchen. I would imagine over a short period of time, you would get used to it.

Write to corporate. I had to do that for my mom's countertop, they didn't add the 12" overhang on the island! It was hard to get resolution through the store and the countertop subcontractor, lots of back and forth and telling her she had to pay, etc. I emailed several people including the CEO. Less than 12 hours later I had a response from a district service manager, it was corrected (removed and replaced) immediately.

I had part of my countertop delivered with the wrong edge. Since my edge profile was specified in the contract, they made the new piece of countertop. (Please note that I did not use Home Depot.)

What does your contract state? if they are not willing to remake and you do not want to settle, will they issue a full refund, so you can choose a different fabricator?

I think by "flat edge" it's the same as "straight edge", correct? I had always understood that a straight edge is more prone to chipping, which is why many fabricators default to a bullnose. Something to think about.

We have had "square edge" for 20 years with no problems. It's eased about 1/16". I agree that bullnose is a safer choice if chipping is a concern, but a fabricator should follow the instructions in the order and not default to bullnose.

I specified an eased edge for my quartz bathroom vanity countertop. When the piece was delivered with a bullnose edge, I explained that my contract included an eased ( squared off ) detail. The fabricator immediately had the proper piece fabricated and installed. I would not have accepted a bullnose edge since it would not be consistent with the style of my minimalist—leaning house. Fortunately, this did not require a large slab and the fabricator had enough material left for my project.

I did not use Home Depot or Lowe‘s for the remodel. I imagine that the fabricator sold the bullnose twin as a remnant, and that someone got a great deal on it.

I am a fabricator. Wrong edge can happen, we're all human. That said; if you don't want to compromise then they are obligated to do it over AND promptly. If they tell you the replacement will take more than a couple days they are bullshorting you. A modern fab shop, even a small one, can completely fabricate a kitchen in less than a day. The material can be a delay but again that's their problem.

If its important to you, demand a full and prompt refund from Home Depot and get it from a reputable company or local home decor shop. No need to waste your time and frustration when you can get countertops from lots of places.

Kudzu9 - yes, I was typing quickly in my earlier post. I was just mentioning the chipping issue as a matter of interest, but I agree 100% that the fabricator should make the counter edge to what was specified on the customer's order. The fabricator needs to do the edge over at no charge to the customer.

ditto what oldryder said. If it's written on the contract that you get a flat edge, then that's what you get. If HD gave them the written order w/instructions, then the fabricator has to eat it.

You could have walked into any stone yard, picked your slab, and had the same thing done, without the hassle of HD.

If you don't like the bullnose, I wouldn't either, you need to start voicing your opinion to someone else w/some power. waiting weeks for a resolution is ridiculous. if they can't redo it immediately, ask for a full refund and go to a stone yard and do it yourself. (and you'll get a better selection) . yes you'll have to wait, but you can live with plywood and simple sink for a few weeks.

If you have a disagreement with your local fabricator, you're just on little 'ole job. When HD calls a fabricator for a do-over, they are telling them that they will eat the top or their zillion-dollar contract with HD is in imminent danger.

I'm not talking' through my hat here. I worked for a fabricator with an HD contract. We tore out and replaced perfectly good tops at HD's orders. If you've got a $5,000.00-a-month nut to make on a $300,000.00 CNC machine that you bought to do the HD contract, you're eating a top or two now and again, believe me.

and they don't care very much if a customer complains. plus, you're still paying them for what you could do. Sorry, I disagree w/you here. unless this is included in a huge kitchen makeover (and I still would never use HD for that either), I'd deal w/picking out my own slab at my own stone yard.

HD shows you little samples. they don't allow customers (usually) to go the fabricators or slab place and see how the slab looks. Often people are very disappointed that their countertop looks nothing like the sample. They get paid for setting up everything. (showing you samples and sending it off to the sub contractor) And , apparently, when there is a dispute, they don't take responsibility for it.

Where is the Home Depot order for the tops, that specifies the edge? If you have that? I would not accept these tops .Demand new. and re do.

I agree if the edge was specified you get either a new counter or a full refund and BTW you can install your sink in plywood and just move it when the counters arrive. IMO HD is really at fault if you had that on your order.

I requested a FLAT edge, and what was delivered was a BULLNOSE edge.

What edge is specified on the order form that you approved?
