Home Decorating Design Dilemma

Home office design/decor help needed!

Hi all!!

Please suggest some design/decor ideas for a bedroom which I’d like to use as a home office (10’x10’) in my converted loft space!! I am in need of some inspiration!! My taste leans towards contemporary and I generally tend to stick to the white/black/gray theme.

- floors are honed concrete, 11’ ceilings with walls that do not go up to the ceiling

- I would like to keep the desk on the wall it currently is as the floors are not level in this room

- The bikes will be stored elsewhere

- the rug and chair do not need to stay either
- sliding barn door to the room is painted matte black

What if you turned the desk so the person sitting is facing out rather than looking into the mirror.

Look into getting a square rug for the space.

what about some floating shelves for storage on the bike wall?

What is around that corner?

There is one set of file drawers on the right side, which you can see in the photo, and in the top drawing. The desk top will go on top of the file drawers and extend around to the left as shown in the yellow shading in the bottom schematic. The supports are not steel. They are wood ledges along the walls, wood support 1.5" deep and 22" wide along the pocket door wall, and then a 3/4" by 8" support perpendicular to the black column. I would love guidance on how the supporting structure needs to be built to safely hold up the desk top.

You've bought a new house and have no idea where to start or probably even what you like. So stop right there and start looking at photos. Make an ideabook for each room in the house, go through the photos on Houzz or the internet and save the ones you love. Right now we have no clue what style or colors you're drawn to--you may not even know yourself--but before you lay out a bunch of money for furnishings and painting, do yourself (and us) a favor and find the look you want.

Although you have some pretty furniture in this room, it doesn't look like an office. It looks like a place for leftover furniture. Might sound weird, but this room needs to look more like a home office. I would swap the desk and credenza like fissfiss suggested. Above the credenza, I would add wide shelving (as wide as the credenza), with at least 2 shelves, add books and decor, and above the desk I would hang a big clock. You should also address the rats nest of cords and cables under your desk. Unfortunately with that style of open bottom desk, all your cabling and cords are on display. There's plenty of cable/cord organizing systems out there. Any decor items on your credenza and shelves should relate to the purpose of the room, ie; work related. So remove the candlesticks. Not too many people work by candlelight anymore.

Ideally, I would have attached a work surface to form an "L" from the wall unit. However, your wall unit has two kneehole spaces which are designed as work stations. Why are those not being used and forgo a formal desk? I would move the printer or get a small one. Oh the mirror and turning the desk is a good idea! The mirror will make the room look bigger!

Thanks for the suggestions! I should have been more clear, the desk is facing a blank white wall, not a mirrored wall. There is a mirrored sliding closet door on the other side of the room not pictured. I like the idea of a longer thinner desk and a square rug!

OMG i can see now there is no refection, it's a 3/4 wall? (duh) I still think facing into the room is better than staring at a wall. plus it makes for a more private computer area.
