You've obviously decided to flip the bedroom and living room and there is no way to access the kitchen from the hall. Are you trying to avoid moving any plumbing or is that an option? You'll have a long trek to get around and in and out of rooms here. Walking all the way through the bath to access the closet would be problematic for me. Maybe the closet and tiny shower could flip. I wouldn't like doing laundry in the cramped stairwell. Would want it near the bedrooms where most laundry is generated. Don't you want more natural light in the kitchen than what comes from the light well. Can you highlight in another color the items that are already permanently installed and not to be moved?

Thanks for your feedback, working with an Edwardian layout is quite tough, I agree with everything you've identified however we are working with a tight budget so we are ok with making some compromises (read the washer dryer way down the hall) I'm attaching an image with yellow highlight showing what we cannot move, the second bathroom (guest bath) is a completely new addition in what used to be a bedroom earlier. We didn't want guests to be walking in to the living area from the kitchen hence we decided to move the entry all the way to the end. The current opening is about 6-7 ft down the hall which is literally three steps. The kitchen and living room is totally open and a large space that is south facing and opens up to a large deck and yard so lots of light comes through in this area. Also attaching existing plan.

Are the ceilings high? Maybe you can put high transom windows in some of the walls to let light in from adjacent rooms, without losing privacy. Or maybe you can put glass in the front door.

Yes!! the ceilings are 9' high and there is glass in the front window.

So a transom might be possible between the hallway and bedroom, or above the kitchen cabinets.

The bedroom door could be a french door, and/or add a transom over the bedroom door which would suit the character of the house. Obviously you'd need frosted glass and/or shirred sheers on the bedroom door glass. Could also work as a single, not a double door. These are a bit modern but you get the idea.

Or a transom in the wall to the bathroom, right opposite the toilet where there is a window to the light well. That would be right in the middle of the long hallway, so a good spot for some light.

lovely ideas, we do have a transom at the top of the bedroom window and frosted glass in the door of the bathroom. I love the idea of getting a frosted glass door for the bedroom too. THANK YOU!!

Although the hallway is a long walk, you can make it welcoming by decorating it in such a way to break up the wall space with interesting things for one to look at.

Absolutely like beautiful artwork! I love the idea. Also from an everyday living perspective its nice to have separation from the street. The master bedroom is close to the living room/kitchen and the front becomes a whole private space for guests. I am getting a little more confident about this layout now. :)
