bigdoglover, Where the piano is now is next to a banister and spindles, whioh on the other side is my foyer. It's a narrow space, so would never fit a small baby grand. Years ago I did have my sofa on the wall where it is and the two chairs across from it to make a conversation area. One problem with that was that I had to put the 2 chairs in the front of the window, but because the window is so big they were kind of in the center of the window. I couldn't put them on the other end of the window from the sofa because the space is limited down that far - closer to the pinao area. Don't know if that makes sense. One idea I had was to leave the sofa where it is, move it out closer to the chairs, which would work because the room is long and put a sofa table behind it. It would still have the same arrangement so to speak just a little closer and more intimate. Any thoughts on that? I plan to replace that picture over my sofa with a large canvas style. I did have candle sconces on either side, but I didn't put them back up after I painted the living room in Jan.

Sounds like you don't want/use a dining table, so don't have one. Change the art to something more representative of you and your family at this stage. Could even be created by your kids ;-) Definitely a long console and larger casual rugs for both spaces. I would take down the white "window" over the fireplace and put up some art work. Then get pillows for the sectional that are colors from the art. I am a plant lover so can suggest a pretty plant between the chair and the fireplace and a floor lamp between the chair and TV furniture,. Also how about some long narrow art (carved wood, wrought iron or mirrors, etc) on either side of your TV cabinet. Can't see the right side but something like that could work.

Nice and large room! IMO, you are trying ot squeeze too many chairs into the space. Add to that the dining room chars and barstools... chair overload. In the photos you've posted, the fireplace is being left out of the equation. It needs at least one chair closer. Have you tried the sofa on the window wall? There is also a lot of unused real estate between the living room area and dining area. I would enlarge the seating area to include some of this space. To define the areas, you could use sofa with a console table or cabinet back to back with the dining area.
