take a peek at my "soft modern" small kitchen design?
Comments (150)side note to Lynn - I was on the dating scene not too long ago so I know what that's like (after my ex suddenly left me). People show what they're made of over time, so be very patient as you get to know them. Be yourself and don't be afraid to turn off people who aren't a good fit. Few people these days are capable of commitment because our society promotes a "shopping"/disposable mentality when it comes to relationships. Commitment comes from deep within and you have to know a person's character and past to know whether they are capable of that. You can see that in how they've handled past relationships, friendships, jobs, and business arrangements. My current husband and I found one another through non-dating channels. Because it was long distance we had a chance to get to know one another deeply with no pressure or expectations. I'm a lucky woman. I can tell you that having a partner to "help with decisions" isn't always convenient though ;) . Handy-ness can go either way too. I haven't had a sink or range or dishwasher for three days now because dh is too busy with work to hook everything up. When you aren't handy and don't have a handy spouse you just hire someone and get-er-done :) ....See MoreKitchen cabinets help, totally overhwhelmed DuraSupreme/Decor/Shiloh
Comments (7)Budget is the number one for me. Next was functionality. For example, I went and looked at all the cabinet lines with their construction so that I could list out what they provide for the bucks. I also took my dishes with me to figure out if they will work with my planned use. For example, Decora was ok but not optimal because the top drawer was useless at 3" height. I might be wrong on the line as it's been a year. I looked at the depths of the upper cabinets to make sure they would fit what I need them to. I was used to 13" deep inside and many lines were o my 10-11". This means they don't fit plates. I didn't ask for quotes until I decided on a particular line. If the looks is all you need then a list of pros and cons for the money is your best bet....See Morekitchen decor (white kitchen)
Comments (7)Congratulations! When I move into a new home the first thing I do is take inventory of what has to stay. Second step is figuring out the things I own that are going into the new home (either can't afford to replace or don't want to replace). Third step is to pick the colors that make my heart sing that I work with what must stay/will stay. (For me, there is an automatic assumption that I will be painting, so I don't consider current wall color). After I know what colors I want to use I pick a neutral that works with my colors. After I pick my neutral I pick the white that will work best with my neutral. This provides me with a color palette to work with in each room. Main areas are usually neutral walls and colors brought in with upholstery, accents, art, area carpets . . . Bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry are usually painted in a subdued version of one of my colors and the neutral brought in in flooring, upholstery, accents, art, area carpets. . . I started buying MCM furniture back when it was just called modern. Knowing your style and picking appropriate pieces to mesh with your new home is much better suited to some of the other contributors. Showing pictures of some of the things you own and love can help them give you guidance....See MoreHelp! Looking for a soft remodel of the kitchen
Comments (27)Lovely countertops! I think that the cabinets can be unstaggered by removing the top molding, adding a piece of wood at the top then reinstalling the molding level with the others. Probably difficult to match wood and stain though, so painting the cabinets would come into play. As much as I hate to say it, because they really are nice looking cabinets, and even if you didn't "unstagger" them, I think that I would paint the lowers a nice dark blue, the uppers a light color that works well with the counters, and paint the tall narrow door to match the wall (or the uppers.) this would really make the counters the "stars" of the kitchen. I agree that the legs on the island are a bit too hefty - see if they can be replaced with a trimmer leg. I would also replace the knobs and cup pulls with 5" (at least) pulls in shiny metal ( nickel, especially if you paint the lowers a dark color). The cups and knobs just look too small to me, out of proportion to the doors and drawer fronts....See MoreShadyWillowFarm
