Help! Need Paint Color for Kitchen (Cross Posted in Decorating)
Comments (25)Breezy- You are not a pain!! You are wonderful and very helpful. If it would not be for you I would have a misplaced prep sink!! I was just looking at the paint chips. And then today I went to BM and one of their consultants helped me. She did not like the idea of the beige colors or the true grays. We both really liked "Gray Wisp" which is almost identical to RH Silver Sage (she had a color chip for it)and "Quiet Moments". The first is more green and rich and the second lighter and more blue. I am really leaning towards the first. She gave me really large swatches to take home and try out. So I will let you know what I find out. Also the mud on the drywall is taking longer to dry so the earliest they can paint is Friday. So I have a wee bit of time to figure this out. Slush- Would love to see your photos of Revere Pewter and Carrington Beige. Since the living room/hallway is all monroe bisque is probably a good idea that I stay away from beige for the kitchen/dining area since those two rooms open into the LR and that is just a lot of beige. Lavender- Thanks...See More"kitchen" decor in the kitchen?
Comments (9)Think about it . . . most of us spend a LOT of time in our kitchens. Our family spends a LOT of time in our kitchens. Kitchens are supposed to be a nurturing place in a family home. Sooooo, what do YOU, want to see in your very own kitchen , every day, all day long? Decorating is not something you do to put yourself in some magazine; decorating in your own home is how you create a place that nurtures you and yours. So, what makes you and yours happy? If Modern art and minimalistic furnishings is what floats your boat, go for it. If a more traditional décor works best for you, go for it! And, everything and anything in between. It's ok if it makes you and yours happy and comfortable. My advice is to look through decorating mags and places online and discover what YOU like. What styles? What colors? Take the time to find YOU and then go for it. Looking at your pics, I see: Kids; Red; Black; Contemporary . . . and hovering as to where to go next. My specific advice? Head over to Art.com and queue in "Contemporary" and look through what comes up that resonates with you. Scenic? Still art? Whatever. Buy it big. Mat it and frame it decently and let that move you on to accent pieces and colors. The bottom line in my book is that every room in your home should make you and yours happy to be in it. Whether or not it is "magazine worthy" is b/s. Lynn...See MoreYour favourite kitchen accessory? Utilitarian or just decorative
Comments (12)Rmlanza - he's such a noble looking pig, and adorable! I'm a bird (and animal) lover too. Growing up, my family and I hand-raised cockatiels as our "family" grew so big that my dad built a house for them in the basement. The mothers I guess didn't like the colder conditions down there so they wouldn't take care of their babies. So we took over, and it was one of the most emotional yet fulfilling times of my life. There's nothing like the expressions and scent of a little baby bird...I absolutely love your idea of having it as a resting spot for handwashing, and it makes so much more sense then just resting it on the counter or edge of sink (which I was planning on doing as I didn't know what else to do). Maybe I'll get a little ceramic bird (well big enough as towel pig) and put a towel on it!! Thank you so much for the great idea! This is something else going in my kitchen - sorry for the terrible blurry photo. My best friend from grade 1 "borrowed it" from her mother's china cabinet and just gave it to me. It's a little glass chickadee with "bubbles" on the inside, very clear and sparkly in person. It reminds me of one of the truest and most genuine friendships I've had, although I didn't realize at the time how rare that was. Cat Mom - with our new pendants in now, the granite is even sparklier! Once everything is in, I'll take a photo of it in the nighttime....See MoreTrying to decorate over white kitchen cabinets. 15’ x 22 inches shelf
Comments (9)Doing nothing as it looks fine is always an option. Or.... I think a wonderful use of that space is to install rope lights on a dimmer and leave it empty giving you awesome ambiance lighting. If you wanted to put a cool long sign up there with the rope lights that would be okay but nothing more because it will just be heavy and cluttery looking. IF you need more storage in your kitchen then you can display some of the nicer pieces, knowing you have to wash them before use. Or you can enclose the area for more storage, Adding glass cabs is probably the best way to get more storage...See Morebtydrvn
