Ready to install 22inch OTR microwave in 24in cabinet
Comments (8)They're installing a 22" OTR micro under the 24" wall cabinet, which presumably sits over their smaller 24" range. Personally I can't imagine an issue with using wood fillers. They'll be up at the level of the microwave, and I presume you have wood cabinets on either side of your 24" range dropping to 18-19" off the counter surface. What kind of range is it? There should be specs detailing the required space above the range before any combustible materials are allowed. Given these trim pieces would only encroach over the range area by 1" on either side, I wouldn't worry about it - unless you go crazy with greasy flambe cooking on your 24" cooker ;) Otherwise some simple metal trim painted white to match the micro would be relatively easy to make up using aluminum readily available at Home Depot or something - they should sell 1" x 1" aluminum stock (L shaped or full box) that you can cut easily with a hacksaw, sand the edges smooth and hit with some white Tremclad. Would cost you $10-$20 all in....See MoreFinal kitchen!!!: white cabinets, dark floors
Comments (61)It's over a year later, but I thought I'd update everyone on how we feel about our kitchen. We continue to love it. The only things we'd change: practically nothing! The design and flow has worked well for us through the last 12 months. The only things my husband and I have ever-so-briefly mentioned in the past has been the addition of a potfiller at the stove (but my husband, the cook, said it isn't necessary even though he has to take 5 steps from sink to stove), and having the garbage disposal be on the LEFT drain of the sink rather than right (which is my left-handed self being picky about how I do the dishes). We had some brief concern about the dark floors, but they are still lovely and comfortable. We do have to sweep and clean them quite often, but that's okay. That's what the kids are for, right? *lol* HollyRu - as for your question as to what's to the right of the sink, we have a 12" cabinet, our black dishwasher, and then the turn to the winerack. The second rack you see is actually a reflection of the real one on the black dishwasher. When the dishwasher is open, it's a breeze to put away the bowls and plates, which go in the two large dish drawers visible on the same photo....See MoreNeed help with 15 x 11 Living Room Layout!
Comments (33)Here is a layout for some of your pieces. The trick for gallery layouts is to keep the bottom of the "layout" all the same level. The upper edge can be variable but balanced. So, I put the big letter "D" on the left (set this out on the floor and look at it to see if it will work in the space), then bottom of the "landscape/cabin?" picture in the bottom middle, and on the right the window with the bottom of it level with the D and the landscape. All those about 6" above the top of the sofa. Then above the landscape, the multi-picture collage with the black framing, and above that the white background Cross? plaque. The other items look a bit more personal and they could go in the master bedroom nicely. The group should be fairly close together kind of like I have shown them. Lay them out on the floor and then you can hang them accordingly. With the open "D" on the left, I think it will kind of make the switches look like they are kind of part of the grouping, or the grouping will distract the eye from them. Notice detail on the sofa! lol...See MoreAm I trying to do too much in a 1.5 story beach home?
Comments (39)Thank you, I appreciate your concern. This very house has been built at least 10 times along the Mississippi Gulf Coast with minor tweaks each time. Our builder has built it multiple times. I have actually walked through the house in my first picture and it is lovely. IThe windows and porches are wonderful. It does not have a loft area or a bunk-room. Each time time it is built there are minor changes in order to not have the cookie cutter effect. My particular "tweaks" are in regards to enlarging the loft area and the bunk room that has been created in the dormer section along the front of the house. I had the option of a small cozy bunk room but that is similar to a house nearby. So I asked for a longer one with a small sitting area in the middle and a gabled dormer in addition to the shed dormers. My concern was that I was trying to get too much into a small space. I have spoken to the draftsperson and we added a foot to the gabled dormer to make it deeper. Now that gabled section is 9 feet. The ceiling in that area reached 12 feet. I have been playing around with ideas about creating a built in bench seat beneath the window with an Ikea wardrobe on either side. That adds seating and gives us storage and leaves a whole whopping 7 feet to place a small coffee table and small scale chairs with a tv on the other side of the wall. I also have discovered the Ikea Hemnes shoe cabinet. It is narrow but gives the look of a traditional chest of drawers. I think it will be perfect in this room. Iwill start a new discussion that is limited to just this area and how to stage it. For an update after speaking to the draftsman, she explained that the vanity in bathroom number 1 is due to the door and pocket doors won't work. So I will leave that like it is. The loft will stay the same size and might just have a desk or a small area to sit and read. The bunk room will serve as the area that I hope to send kids to watch tv. (I personally don't want a lot of tv watching at the beach, but I know it is inevitable, so I want there to be a separate area for kids.) I appreciate all of the insights from everyone. I realize that my post had too many questions. In the future I will focus on one thing at a time. I plan to start another post just for the staging of this bunk room. For all of you that have hung on through my rambling, please know that I will try to be more concise. Thank you!...See MoreHU-378640540
