Weird tomato vine foliage
Comments (2)The growth you are describing sounds spot on for herbicide damage, and it's possible your grass clippings had trace herbicide on them, but the most likely culprit to be found on grass clippings is "2,4-D" a broad leaf weed killer approved for use on home lawns and is sold at your local hardware stores, no doubt ("weed-b-gone" is one of them). The other parts of your mix could also have been the culprits. Manure can sometimes be contaminated with Clopyralid as jean said above. Clopyralid is a much more toxic and persistent herbicide than 2,4-D. Clopyralid also requires a license to purchase / apply, partly in response to the persistance and potential damage it can cause. If Clopyralid is in your mix, it's going to have problems for a year or more. Let's hope for your sake that, if it is herbicide damage, that it's 2,4-D and not Clopyralid, because the breakdown of 2,4-D is significantly shorter in duration (anywhere from a few weeks to a few months). Depending on the level of exposure, if it was 2,4-D, the plants might even be able to recover as-is....See MorePineapple tomato - foliage looks weird
Comments (2)Tina, Those leaves look like a classic case of Cucumber mosaic virus. It's likely that those two Pineapple seedlings got the virus from where they were grown as seedlings, or they may have gotten the virus from the seeds (it's uncommon, but seed transmission does happen), which is why it's showing up in both of them but not affecting your other plants. They won't recover; they'll stay stunted, and probably won't ever bear fruit. You're best off yanking yours (and telling your sister to do the same) and replacing them with new seedlings or a sucker from your other tomato plants. CMV is aphid transmitted, so you don't want to keep the infected ones around for aphids to pick it up and infect your other plants. Maybe you can give Pineapple a try again next year. Sorry about the bad news. --Alison...See MoreAudio problem with some DVDs---any ideas?
Comments (5)You know, years ago consumer electronics were built like appliances - hardware that was designed to work as specified when built and sold. Occasionally, after the hardware design and release, problems would arise and "technical service bulletins" would be issued by the manufacturer and problems would be fixed, usually under warranty. Later on, with firmware (computer software) now controlling products, manufactures could make fixes with a firmware upgrade and avoid costly hardware changes. Next came, "why should we wait on releasing this product, when we can do it now and finish it up in firmware upgrades later that the customer can/has to do later on?" So now, with Blu-ray, we have both hardware manufactures and Blu-ray DVD authoring facilities and replicators, all taking the same approach - make the customer figure it out and try to correct it with firmware upgrades. It's the same mentality used in the computer industry to make their failings your responsibility to figure out and resolve. OK! Off my soapbox now! Sushipup, try doing a firmware upgrade from the onscreen menus, with an internet connection, and see if the manufacturer has not already addressed the hardware/software conflict. If, when trying to perform an upgrade, it fails, try downloading the appropriate file to a USB thumb drive or CD-R instead and installing that way - the mfg website will usually provide a text file describing how to do this....See Moreharman p61 problem- any ideas?
Comments (2)Pellethead- thanks for the response. Here's what I've determined happened: I was doing some remodeling work in the room beside the room with the stove. I think that the floor vibrated and the stove "walked" just enough to create some small gaps in the silicone sealing the pipe joints. When the stove started up, the excess smoke in the firebox leaked out and was then picked up by the air intake and blasted through the room. I cleaned out the burnpot and the ignitor chamber and start ups have been fine and I've re-sealed the vent pipes. My sealing job isn't the prettiest, but it'll last until summer when I can really disassemble and reassemble everything. I also cleaned out the vent pipe, but there was little to no ash in it. I'm still really impressed with the stove- we've been using it all winter to heat our 2000sf uninsulated farmhouse and it's been doing a good job....See MoreVaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley
