Need help with furniture placement in baby girl's nursery! PICS
Comments (5)Do you need that tall white armoire, since you already have the built-in drawers and the large closet? If yes, then I would put the tall dresser where the head of the bed is now. If there is room, I would put the crib on the wall you first suggested, between the window and the built-ins. I would get a changing pad for the top of the built-in and use that as the changing table. It will be very convenient in the middle of the night when you are sleepy to just move to the left and change her, rather than taking her into the bathroom. I would try the rocker and ottoman in the corner where the windows meet. A perfect place to sit with the baby. Congrats on the new addition!...See MoreSearching for a light turquoise paint for baby girl's nursery.

So, while I do agree, that would be an excellent choice, I would keep in mind what I wanted to do with the other rooms in making a final decision. For what it is worth, I have three children and have used 2" wood blinds in all of their room when they were young. What I did was to knot the cords together so that it would be impossible to coke or strangle on the cord. Most blind companies have made their products baby safe, so it that is a concern, I would keep that in mind. It is nice to have light control with young children in order to faciliate sleep. I think a layered look works well with the shutters or blinds paired with either stationary panels or valances for pattern and softness. I generally perfer panels over valances, though with young toddlers, valances may be a more practical choice so they are not tugging on the panels or getting them dirty with sticky fingers. So, my vote would probably be for valances as most likely, you will find yourself redoing the room 3-4 years from now when you phase out the crib and, valances would be easy to change at that time....See MoreHelp laying out girls' bedroom
Comments (14)Yes, this is definitely a temporary fix, although there are many temporary fixes still hanging on 5 years later around here, so I'd like to make the most of it in case this ends up being a 5 year project. I do enjoy symmetry, but it's not necessary if other layouts work out better. I've been doing some shopping around just to see what might work and compare bunk beds and look at trundles. A neighbor stopped by last night to make our weekly goods trade and we were discussing beds, and she mentioned she had bought a day bed with a trundle that can be locked in a raised position to make a king for her spare bedroom. My sister-in-law mentioned futons, which would be easy to move around and could fold up to couches when they needed the floor space, but I'm not sure how great they would be for sleeping in every night. noellabelle- my kids love camping out too! They've been camping in the tipi at my in-laws all summer. Their room turned out great, and like you, I want something they can grow into. While they all love the frilly princess pastels and playhouse beds now, my oldest is already showing signs of outgrowing the look. I think I can do a more modest look they can enjoy for years to come, and can hopefully reuse most of it when they move to their future bedrooms. geokid-I've been looking at the TV cabinets as well. There are hundreds on CL this week. I like the idea of having one for each child too. I'm keeping my eyes out, although dh is not excited about trying to get them upstairs. We had to knock out the closet at the top of the stairs to get our mattress up there lol. bostonpam- I will definitely check out the Ikea system. Even if it won't work in this room, I'd like to put some type of storage in the laundry room/entry. I'm kind of curious as to how many of you have children who share or have shared a bed in the past. How long did they share a bed? I don't want for them to feel forced to share a bed if they don't want to.If I could get away with two beds for now, the girls would have a lot more floor space which would be nice at their ages now and I could satisfy my need to hide the clutter with more storage. nosoccermom- I love those hanging beds! I want one for our bedroom lol AnnieDeighnaugh- I hadn't considered hanging curtains or fabric over the clothes. That would be such a simple fix even until we get everything straightened out! I think I will gather up all of our curtains and try to make something work today!...See MoreI’m turning the spare bedroom into a walk-in closet!
Comments (26)Warning - two year old post! @adv1984 - your closet renovation looks amazing - hard to believe it was DIY. You must be an experienced DIYer! My master closet appears to be similar to yours. It’s a little over 7.5’ wide (as currently finished + 5-6‘ of eave space behind current walls) x 18’ deep. While I wouldn’t do the work myself, I’m interested in hearing some details - if you wouldn’t mind sharing. First, what are the dimensions of your closet? Did you build everything or use some sort of system? I know that some people have used somehing like IKEA Pax and customized it (and made it look buil-in). My guess is that you made custom pieces to fit into the space. Is the space along the top separately finished for each set of doors - or - did you frame out one continuous space + add sets of doors to access space? Also, I am very interested in how you finished the space behind your built-ins. It appears that you have eave space that runs along both sides of the closet based upon the access doors behind your hanging bars on each wall ( shown in the second and third photos). Does the eave space run along the entire length of your closet walls? I’m trying to get a feel for how many access doors I would need along 18’ wall (if I want to use the entire 18’ of space under the eaves on each side). How long/deep is the space that can be accessed by each door? Wish you lived near me so I could hire you! Thanks!...See Moresuezbell
