Bedroom and Bedroom Closet Paint Question
Comments (10)I need to change my response. I could have sworn that our master closet was the same color as the MB (SW Blonde) and I know that it was supposed to be, but today I looked at the closet and the walls and ceiling are both SW Dover White! My husband changed a lot of the paint colors on his own (GRRR!--he's afraid of color) and this is one change that I missed, but after thinking about it I'm glad that it is light color as we only have one small window in the closet so it would have been dark. We have 3 other walk-in closets and they all have SW Dover White walls and ceilings and don't match the rooms that they are attached to....See Morethinking about turning guest bedroom into walk-in closet
Comments (14)What Kitycat says is true, leave the configuration of 3 bedrooms so that future owners can have the option since most families will need that with children around. It would affect the sale of your home. I say that because 2 bedroom homes are not that sought after. Our little cottage is 2 bedroom and it suits us. I figure the way we have it (planned) setup, it will be possible for this house to become a rental for two single individuals who want separate baths, closets, and some privacy. So each bedroom has its own bath, with the master having a walkin closet. And they do not share the hallway. The front bedroom (we now use it as a study) can be closed off making the hallway part of its suite and only using the bath if there are guests and the door to the hallway is not locked from the bedroom side. Part of my remodel to the kitchen will include closing off the master entry door from the (now shared) hallway, and relocating it to near the back door, as I also add a sitting area to the master. The sitting area COULD be left open to the kitchen area, but I have a nice old cypress door which will be mounted with barndoor hardware to close off the sitting area from the kitchen.....although I doubt we do that often, since we two old folks seldom have overnight guests. But, it is something I feel important for the sake of privacy. Anyway, you will sure get a lot more use from the space being set up to serve as a huge closet, more so than being under-utilized as a spare bedroom. Spare bedrooms or "guest" rooms, are probably the least used space in a home, followed by a formal dining room. In our house, the third least used space was the living room. We use the 2nd bedroom as our study and TV room. I now have my big parrot cages in the living room. We go through the LR to go sit in the sun porch, always a pleasant experience. I have ideas how to make the LR work harder and fit in with our lifestyle. With the return of french doors to the doorway, I now see the LR as our potential guest room. That way, our study stays intact and undisturbed because we use it more hours in the day/night than even the kitchen or the bedroom...or the bath, for that matter....See MoreTurning bedroom into walk-in closet
Comments (6)The house was painted all dark colors dark colors when we bought it – dark grays, brick red, dark green, navy. It was dark and heavy looking even with all the windows windows. It is all painted white and very light colors now and looks so bright and airy, it is hard for us to believe it's the same house. The other bedroom also has three doors and I think three windows. But it is a little bigger and has more wall space for placing furniture, so we want to use that one as a bedroom. Yes I think building in front of the windows may be the best use of the space. We can also build in front of the door (maybe remove the doorknob) that goes to the hallway and just enter the closet from the bedroom as that would be typical anyway....See MoreSpare Walk In Closet Organization
Comments (5)I installed a very similar shelving unit in 2 closets in our bedroom a year ago. I think my closets are about the same width, but not as deep. For us they work beautifully! I did not add drawers, as we have a chest of drawers in the bedroom; I just have shelves for jeans, shorts, heavy sweaters, ski gear. In my closet, I have 2 hanging rods. Out of season or less frequently used clothes go in the back - they are not as convenient to reach, but it is still possible. The shelf above is for out of season storage - but the new shelving unit (and a healthy purge) means I have very little need for that high shelf. In DH's closet, I moved the hanging rod up as high as I could reach to hang up clothes, and added 2 shelves below the clothes for shoes and boxes. If you find that arrangement completely unacceptable, I suggest you take out the existing shelves/rods (I don't like hanging clothes on wire shelves anyway), rotate the shelving unit 90°, and add double clothes rods in the remaining space. It looks like there are a few pairs of pants that need a longer space - in my closet, I have a rack on the back of the closet door for long dresses....See MoreKim Q
