36 inch wide pantry cabinet with roll-out shelves
Comments (8)If I understand correctly, your current 48" wide pantry has 16" deep shelves, but the new 36" wide pantry would have full-depth (24") roll-out shelves? I currently have a 24" wide x 24" deep pantry w/ roll out shelves. Although you may well be able to fit the same amount of foodstuffs in the new one, I find that I struggle WAY more trying to keep my pantry organized--MUCH more so than when I had a walk-in closet w/ 14" deep shelves. Yes, I can fill this deeper one very full, BUT I CAN'T SEE WHAT'S IN IT EASILY!! In my former house/pantry, I knew-and could see--for example, that I had 4 cans of green beans (lined up from front to back of shelf). And next to that was a row w/ only 2 cans of corn. Ok, time to buy more corn. It was SO much easier to organize and stay organized w/ the shallow depth pantry. But in my current, deep one, the corn may have to be placed farther back, behind the green beans, to begin w/. Then things get lost and shifted around out of place ALL the time b/c you cannot see at a glance what is in there. The item you're looking for can just get buried by all the other stuff! Never had that problem before--and not planning on having it again, after our planned kitchen remodel at the end of this year--I'm going to have a 6' wide x 15" deep pantry built for that very reason. Can't wait :-)...See MoreIs 20' wide too much for my U shaped kitchen?
Comments (67)One of our most fabulous layout experts, Rhome410, is great with zone layout. You've gotten some good advice here already from Liriodendron and oldtimecarpenter, but you might want to check out Rhome's blog. I'll link to her post about her kitchen and how its set up with zones. She also answers questions and you can email through her blog. She's busy with her 10 kids, construction project, and a DH's surgery this summer so hasn't checked in much. I know that she, too, would give you kindly advice to rework your appliance layout. Buehl is also great at explaining work zones, but I don't see her much anymore. I think she has some good info on the 'New to Kitchens' thread (usually on page 1) on zones. If you still have questions after all that reading, try posting a separate thread specifically titled to get guidance on zone setups. The title of this thread seems to indicate more about kitchen size than zones. My kitchen would have been a layout mess if not for the advice I received here from Rhome, Buehl, Lascatx, Bmorepanic, and so many others. After hundreds (not kidding) of hand drawn layouts (after the help of our house designer/draftsperson who I thought would have known better), I finally found one with zones in the right place. I've been using my kitchen for more than seven months, and its truly wonderful to work in. Sure, I could have gotten by with an OK layout, but when you've got a great one your kitchen is so easy to use because everything is exactly where it should be without walking all over the place and crossing zones. I encourage you to keep working to improve your layout. Here is a link that might be useful: Rhome's blog post on her kitchen zones...See MoreWide Galley Kitchen Version 2.0
Comments (91)Yes it is happening! After many months of planning and lots and lots of great advice from this forum, we are finally inching closer to our kitchen remodel. I placed orders for the appliances today and the demo will begin in a couple of weeks. We finally went with a slightly tweaked version of Layout 4 posted by @buehl and @sena01. Please see attached renderings. As always I am very grateful to the knowledgeable people on this forum who are so willing to help others. If you have any other comments on the layout please let me know.We did an audit of the all the items in the kitchen, measured their dimensions, and grouped them by function to decide on the drawer configurations. Thanks to posts and photos by @scrappy25 in another thread, we are able to accommodate a stages sink in the design with minimal loss of undercabinet storage space. I have a few lingering questions: 1. Have any of you used undercabinet lighting, specifically LED strips. Love it? Hate it? Any brand recommendations? Did you install your cabinets 19" from the countertop or at 18"? 2. This is a fairly elementary question. My contractor says that typically cabinets are installed on the subfloor and the tiles come up to the cabinets. Some of my friends installed their tiles and their cabinets sit over the tiles. Any pros and cons of one method over the other? 3. For the tall pull out pantry next to the refrigerator, we can either go with one tall pull out or break it into two shorter pullouts. Any experiences one way or the other? 4. Still on the topic of pullouts, we have a choice of either using hardware from rev-a-shelf or kessebohmer. It looks like kessebohmer is slightly more expensive, but I am not sure if it is better in construction and durability. Can someone who has experience with either please chime in with their opinion. 5. Since the refrigerator is 84" tall, the cabinet over the refrigerator is very shallow (around 7.25"). Any good ideas on how to make this tiny cabinet functional/useful? 6. The countertop is 30.5" deep (cabinets are 29" deep). My refrigerator will be installed right next to the end of a countertop run.As a result the refrigerator and pantry will not be in the same line as the other cabinets. They will be pushed forward 1.5", and sit proud of the counteto Will this will be visually jarring? Not sure if I am explaining myself well. Please see attached picture....See MoreFort Worth autumn swap October 20th 2018 Saturday Forest Park
Comments (41)Phone is giving me fits, so I'm having to break my messages into small bits. Working in Garden today. Dug up a crepe myrtle that's getting too much shade, pink flowers, I will bring if someone wants it. Also and bringing some irises that were marked in one place as spuria and in another place as Louisiana. Whatever they are, they will grow. Have mother of millions, Cast Iron Plant, false aloe, Lamb's Ear, trumpet vine, Pink four o'clocks, several pots of flame acanthus, comfrey, Jewel of opar that I accidentally broke and stuck into a pot just this minute, little bit of lemon mint, some red Yucca, just tiny babies that I started from seed. If anyone wants, I can bring some pecan and Oak seedlings. They are very heavy and take up room so ask if you want. At least one pot of pigeon Berry. oddly enough, I have some horse herb. I planted something, forget what, and horse herb came up. Have something that I think is white mulberry, and a bunch of seeds, some pots, to seed starting trays with pots, a pair of in-line skates, and ttwo Willow wreath for crafts....See Moregirl_wonder
