I think shiplap was invented by those little house spiders that like to nest in the corners of the ceiling and wanted more cracks to hide in. It does add some texture, and it fits certain styles very well (beach cottages and ship captain's homes near the sea), but in a suburban tract home, it looks odd to me, too. My childhood home went on the market after a really cheap flip job, and they have it there in a 1890's rural farmhouse that has been remodeled to be modern. It just looks weird in some spaces! And... spiders!

Numbers 5 and 11 are my favorites. I like the streamlined looks. The herringbone in No. 5 is so good looking;very artistic.

Damn.. I just finished my two bathrooms & I really could have used that last sliding storage idea! I'd love to say "next time", but at 70 I doubt there will be a next time!
