Yay, My first sighting early this morning.
Comments (2)Thank you for the Dawn and Dusk tip mehitabel, I am always up early, and it is usually very calm, but in the evening it is usually windy this time of year until after dark. In answer to your post on 'What is blooming', I have nothing blooming at this time, I have a ton of things planted but no blooms at this time. I put out four feederz, as suggested by other members, a colorful windsock, even adding some red florescent tape that we had. I am sure that helped as we are on the very edge of town, and this little guy must have seen my red and decided to stop by. So glad he/she did. I will be watching this evening....See MoreSnow and light early this morning
Comments (15)I posted the ice crystal pic from the snow melt puddle at my place on the GW photography forum. A fellow from Poland commented about how he liked it, then proceeded to post the mother of all "one up" threads. Ha. THIS guy has some ice pics: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/photo/msg0208353831850.html?2 Here is a link that might be useful: Some serious ice pics...See More'The Early March Morn' A Poem
Comments (3)Rachel, The Purple Martin is like a God Among birds bigtime smile..They are as American as baseball and your grandma's apple pie. They are the true harbinger of spring and once you hear that voice overhead or see that black jet form knife across the sky you know winter is dead for good. I had 124 pairs last year here that fledged nearly 500 babies. They cannot all return to nest here and I hope they find other caring folks that put up a proper martin house or gourds equipped with starling resistent entrances and start new colonies. There is no comparison between a beautiful springtime blue\black martin and a starling Rachel..The martin puts them to shame. One martin perched amidst a bunch of McDonald's parking lot, french fry eatin' starlings would look like a flowering daisy in a field of cockleburrs big grin..Love them so much. Glad you liked my poem Rachel. I see you live in Ky. Well if you are ever over towards Owensboro you would be welcome to come and watch the martins here on a warm summer evening or morning. They are a treat. By eliminating the invasive species anyone can have a nice colony of them in no time if they put up the proper house and\or gourds...Mike...See Morelindyluwho lost her mother, early Saturday morning
Comments (27)Sorry that you have this loss, Linda, my condolences to you and family. I'm regretful that your mom's life was less than pleasant near the end. You'd be disappointed in her being aloof when you visited ... yet she complained of boredom. Age and infirmity often brings substantial changes in our lifestyle and attitudes. Sometimes we can recover a number of the things that we enjoyed in earlier days ... but sometimes that's not possible, and it takes a person of great spirit to adjust accordingly, accepting that yesterday had gone and can't be recovered, that we need to deal with the realities of our lives today, dealing with restrictions and finding new interests and joys, even friends, as are required in the new scenario. May your Mom rest in peace, and those of you who loved her find peace in your hearts. ole joyful...See Morekathyg_in_mi
