Bela Lugosi is one of my favorite dark purples, too. Yours is very nice. Early Days is very pretty. Love Russian Sage and cleome, haven't grown either in a while. Might have to change that.

nice dark lilies. really like that b. lugosi. I'm waiting in my yard to see Kropf's Africa bloom. you just got to have a few dark ones to accent all those eyes in the daylilies. :)

I know a lot of folks love BL, and I guess since I've not seen it in person, it hasn't appealed to me that much. Probably because of what you stated about not being able to capture it's beauty.

Now EARLY DAYS is another story! I absolutely love it! Such a whimsical looking thing.

I love Russian Sage and have several starts of it around the garden. It is the perfect backdrop for the daylilies and blooms all summer.

I like the dark rich colors like Bela Lugosi. I have Bela & Evening Enchantment & love both. EE is smaller, but more of an edge, but Bela is really huge this year & that bright eye is gorgeous. Much better in person though, photos just don't capture. Love the color & two-toned look of Early Days. I'm fond of Russian Sage too & have it several places in my garden.

I tried Russian Sage once afew years ago but it just grows too big for my garden. Yours is pretty though. I must say I am very taken by EARLY DAYS. What a gorgeous bi-tone! And that lovely green throat. I am surprised I have never heard of this beauty before (at least not that I can remember) and it is deffinately my pick for favorite here.

There is a dwarf Russian sage called 'Little Spire' :) It is much smaller. I've had one for a couple of years now.

I like both of your daylilies. BELA LUGOSI is already on my list, and EARLY DAYS looks like a really cheerful bloom that would make you smile every time you see it.

Your photo on the left shows a lot of velvety darkness. Bela Lugosi is one of the best daylilies out there. I wonder if it's ever made a run for the Stout medal. It's certainly deserving as it grows well everywhere in the U.S.

Early Days is a beautiful bitone, and I love the look of your perovskia with the white cleome. I've never grown cleome, but have been thinking about it for the past two years. Someday I'll get those seeds sown.

Early Days gets my vote. Haven't heard of it before either. Very nice... I've thought about Bela but so far haven't bought it. Looks good though, and from what I understand it is colorfast. I've had no luck growing Cleome in my official flower bed for some reason. But it has reseeded everywhere else including around the composter where we pitched some old plants. Perovskia likes a very dry soil, and looks good as a "see through" plant if it likes the spot it's in.....Maryl

I really like Early Days - it is so very colorful and cheerful.

Of course, Bela Lugosi is one classy daylily. I have had it for several years, and really do like it. The blooms are always perfect, and it never has been bothered by thrips. It holds its color well in hot sun, too.

I was so happy to see your picture of 'Early Days' since I just planted mine last week from Blue Ridge....I am now even more delighted that I got it! I hope mine will look as good as yours when & if it blooms this year. According to Bob Selman it is a very reliable bloomer. I love the bicolor bloomers and couldn't afford 'Clown Parade', so I opted for 'Early Days' as a much cheaper alternative. (under ten dollars versus close to a hundred!) Thanks for showing your pretty pictures.
