One new one for Saturday morning

ETERNAL WARRIOR. I wish it would look like this all day, but it starts to turn a little rusty looking in the sun.

The light was amazing early this morning and was lighting up the cleome like fireworks.

I like the eye on EW, it's a shame it's not sunfast. I have some like that too. Come to think of it, I have a LOT like that, lol!

Love the cleome fireworks. Very appropriate timing!

Don't you hate it when your reds and purples are so pretty in the morning and then the sun gets them? I really like the cleome, and is that a salvia, maybe one of the salvia farinaceas--don't know if that is spelled right. I love salvias, one of the few plants the deer won't eat. Avedon

Rita, Well, I can't grow lupines, and the growth of delphiniums is very scant in comparison to cooler areas. But my gardenias are loaded, and I realized the first bud had opened (yesterday) when I passed the area and caught the scent. I do love the fragrance of gardenias and hope to have a few into December like last year. I am really looking forward to your posting pics of your iris. I am interested in a couple from Rocky Mtn Iris, but want to see a real bloom. And by the way, I can send you a start of that spuria iris that you commented on if you like. Apparently they are not affected by the fungus since it is totally clean and spreading. This year, I plan to cut all tall bearded iris foliage at the end of the summer so I may be able to defeat the fungus that way. I will have more time since I won't have to go to work anymore. Night shift kills Friday (can't get tired, you'll be at it all night) Saturday (sleep) and Sunday (catching up for not sleeping Saturday night)...if I don't take it off Sunday, then Monday I will be so tired and unmotivated, I'll just drag all day and achieve little.

RITA, i sure am trying hard to do just that.Keeping the blooms coming.I took a bunch of pictures of another one today, too,and couldnt see the bloom in the camera to get a decent picture and I deleted every one of them..Sure wish it would be cloudy early morning.That would solve my problem.Today,I tried using a umbrella to shade the camera so I could see the bloom, but that didnt work so good either,as I just had such a brightglare it just made it almost impossible. Both gorgeous photos! Can you move EW to where it gets shade from mid day on? I'm not sure it would fix the color fade, but it might help......

What a lovely red! I know just what you mean about sun effects on them. I have spent $$$ on some of the "latest and greatest" reds, only to discover that by 2:00 P.M. they are a mess. Red Volunteer, Kent's Favorite Two, Gus Townsend, and a few others that don't come to mind at the moment are very sun-fast. The Lambertsons that I do have, and love dearly, get very pale in the afternoons.

I had one red diploid that opened in the morning looking lovely, and as the day progressed, it got uglier and uglier. I think it truly deserved the title of the "Ugliest Duckling." It didn't get any better with maturity, either.

It is a shame it doesn't hold its color, it really is beautiful. You really do look patriotic today, so very appropriate!

Vickie, you are right, I didn't even think about the timing on the fireworks.

Avedon, yes that is Victoria Blue salvia. It is borderline hardy in zone 7A, but I get it anyway because it is so pretty. About half of them come back for another year. It blooms all summer, doesn't flop and is adaptable growing in full or part sun.

Cracking, the fluffy stuff is ageratum.

Eternal Warrior is so pretty in the mornings! Maybe you could move it to where it gets afternoon shade. I love the photo of the cleome and the salvia. Get Born To Run in with those two and you've got the perfect Independence Day photo.
