Your Bath: Good Morning, Sunshine
Here's How to Bring More Warm, Natural Light to the Bathroom
Bathrooms by their nature are full of hard and cold materials. They have to be to deal with the amount of moisture in there. And they can be dark, too, because we often sacrifice windows to gain privacy. But natural light is what we crave early in the morning to awaken our souls and get us ready for the day's activities.
Here are some greats ways to bring light into your bathroom. Some are more functional than others, but all are good at bringing a little sunshine to your morning routine.

Add a wall of windows. Okay, I fully admit that this bathroom is simply a dream bathroom. The view, the wall of glass, everything! But for those of us who would find this level of exposure a little uncomfortable, the idea to glean from this photo is the power of a high ceiling combined with the window. Together the two elements create the open feeling of a luxurious spa.
Use frosted glass. These tall windows let in a beautiful amount of soft, filtered light while maintaining privacy. The white surfaces bounce light around the room for an ethereal experience.
Here's another implementation of the frosted glass window. In this case, the window in the shower brings in just enough natural light to warm up the space.
Borrow light from another room. Consider adding interior windows to bring light in from an adjoining space. The two high clerestory windows, in addition to the two other windows, are just enough to light the space naturally.
Use mirrors to bounce light around. This contemporary bathroom with a large window in the shower puts reflected light to good use. The expansive mirror over the vanity carries the light from the shower window even further into the space. It almost feels as if the mirror is another window.
If you have a view, use it. This California home seems perfectly positioned for an amazing view of the surrounding hills. The freestanding tub next to the window becomes a romantic bathing experience. Turn the lights down low, enjoy the view, and let the day's stresses melt away.
Add a vaulted ceiling and skylight. In this steam shower/tub, the homeowner really wanted full access to the sky. Sunlight pours in during the day and at night, she can look up at the stars while enjoying a good steam. Doesn't get much better than that.
