Linda, formerly from GA, but lives now in AL said her mother had been admitted to the hospital Friday with pneumonia, but died later.

Extending my sympathy and special thoughts to Linda and her family.

Rita, No I have 2 fans with a bloom on each fan,which is one of the blooms in this post today.The 3rd fan has a bud on it,and it had already bloomed a few days ago,and wasnt a pretty bloom so didnt take a picture of it.Both blooms todAY looks exactly alike.well, maybe these fans need some fertilizer. I didnt get my usual picture of Wonder Of It All.It just had one bloom today and it never did open all the way.Its been so beautiful,I guess it has earned a bad day.It still has buds yet to open. I was just fixing to try and go out and start watering them, when my daughter called me to see if the man got my ac fixed and working now,and I told her yes, and its really putting out cold air now, but,I need to go get started on watering,and she came unglued and told me to not even think about going out right now,Its much to hot out there, 104,she told me to wait till the sun gos down,and even then will be a bake oven out there.I forgot if Oktoberfest reblooms or not.Have to check and see,and if it reblooms, maybe if I put fertilizer around it, the next blooms will be the orange color. hope so. Hi Ilene, I'm kind of amazed y'all didn't have a frost because it looked pretty cold up there on the weather map. The green tomatoes I left on the vines are just sitting there and sitting there and sitting there. I don't think they are going to change colors and ripen until the sun shines. Supposedly we will have sunshine here on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I'll believe it when I actually see it since that also was our forecast last weekend and we had no sunshine and lots of cold instead. I think in the last two weeks, we've had a couple of times where the sun came out for 3 or 4 minutes, and last Thursday we had a hour or so of sun early in the day. It got our hopes up for a sunny day, but then that tiny bit of sun vanished. I saw an article on the website of either the Fort Worth or Dallas newspaper that said as of yesterday they were on their 11th straight day of clouds/no sunlight, so even that far south they are having about the same weather as most of us. The good news is that most of Texas has had a lot of rain and their drought conditions are receding. When the new Drought Monitor map is released tomorrow, we'll see a lot of changes.....I know that, not because I'm psychic, but because I have already looked at their KBDI map this week on another website and it shows great changes. Don't those Crocs have holes in them? I can't wear anything like that, including any sandals or open-toed or open-heeled shoes, that let the scorpions or fire ants have access to my skin or they'll take advantage of it. I learned that the hard way and have tried pretty hard not to slip up......if there is one fire ant in the yard and I go outside the house in sandals (I do wear them indoors), that one fire ant will find me the instance I step off the porch and onto the ground. We do have fire ant mounds popping up in a few places, and I still have some organic fire ant killer, so if we get a couple of dry days, I'll treat those mounds. Our puddles even have puddles, Ilene. The dog yard is a muddy mess but we've spread a couple of bales of straw there and that is helping. I think we need to get a couple more bales of straw and put out even more. When I walk in the garden, it squishes. I suspect this long, cloudy spell is a taste of the kind of fall/winter weather we're going to have this year. Usually October is one of my favorite months with its bright blue, clear, sunny skies and moderate temperatures. This year is a whole different story though. Dawn

David, I am so sorry for your lost. I, too, lost my mom when she was 81, which was 5 years ago, so I do know that grief. An even more difficult loss was losing my daughter 2 years ago. I thought I would literally die when she did, but God's timing was not mine. As a Southern Baptist pastor, you've consoled many others over the years, but it's just not the same. You must now grieve yourself. No one will questions your beliefs because, if you remember, Jesus even cried over Lazarus. I know our Father grieves when we grieve. After my daughter died, at some point, I just couldn't feel God's presence with me. A friend of mine suggested that I ask God for a scripture, somehing I had never asked for before. When I did that that night in bed, He told me to get up and read I Corinthians 1:9. I told Him I didn't know what the verse said, so he told me once again, "Get up and read it." When I did, the last three words are "God is faithful." Those were the exact words I needed to hear. I now realize that my daughter and mother are both in the Lord's presence, which give me great comfort. God was right there with me through all of what happened. Please don't misunderstand. I still have moments when I want to scream at the top of my lungs because I miss them so much. What once seemed a cliche to me, "You'll see her again," now is my hope. You loved your mom. Why would you not grieve her and be lost without her? My doctor told me it would take me two full years to feel like I was in the world again, and he was right. I've found that i can now sympathize with others who have had losses, too. One thing you need to remember is that no two losses are the same because no two relationships are the same. You will find your way, David, because you do have God to lean upon. His ways are simply not our ways, but He is our Lord. I also find it easier to deal with their deaths if I start praising God when I feel so lost here on this earth. When I do that, I can see both my mom and my daughter, arm-in-arm, surrounded by light, broadly smiling in God's presence. May God Bless and Keep you. BTW, I, too, am Sothern Baptist. Sounds Delicious ImHappy. Good luck with your snow and wind. We did not get too much wind but I did work out there yesterday while 4 more inches fell. I am FINALLY DONE with my roof. Such a relief. Now the ice is off of it it should slide normally again. The ice layer was keeping the snow from sliding and it was not warming up enough to slip the ice layer. Driveway got done too last night,finishing at 10PM,before the city got to muck it up with his tire tracks. NOW we are supposed to get a week of no snow then it could start again a week from Tomorrow. I would be happy if it did not start again. I and many others have had their fill of it. Talked to my friend in Planning and Zoning and he said the little town of Weiser has lost 150 roofs of one sort of another. Some sheds. Even so it is a loss. This has not been a normal series of storms. I am so tired I do not even feel like playing with my glass or anything tonight. Just sitting here drinking tea and dozing is working for me. Watched part of a video of them rescuing a man from under his collapsed carport. Showed how thick the snow was on their roof. No wonder it went down. Mine was close to three foot deep on the ridge. I had pulled it off a couple of times but could not break the ice loose until it warmed up a bit. A week of bliss I hope coming up for me.

Thank you everyone. I have been expecting this for 3 years since the doctor gave her 6 months or less to live. I think he just forgot to tell her though. Really this is a blessing because she had no quality of life. She would only lie in bed and read. She only got out of bed when they made her go to the dining room (assisted living) and she wouldn't talk to me or DD when I went to visit, she wouldn't participate in the activities and then would complain she was bored. That's not living.

Linda I'm sorry for your loss...my Mom died last year at 90 and she had no quality of life either...living was confusing and painful...I understand how sad that is.

Sorry that you have this loss, Linda, my condolences to you and family.

I'm regretful that your mom's life was less than pleasant near the end.

You'd be disappointed in her being aloof when you visited ... yet she complained of boredom.

Age and infirmity often brings substantial changes in our lifestyle and attitudes.

Sometimes we can recover a number of the things that we enjoyed in earlier days ... but sometimes that's not possible, and it takes a person of great spirit to adjust accordingly, accepting that yesterday had gone and can't be recovered, that we need to deal with the realities of our lives today, dealing with restrictions and finding new interests and joys, even friends, as are required in the new scenario.

May your Mom rest in peace, and those of you who loved her find peace in your hearts.
