The old coat of solid stain that has weathered makes a good prime coat if it's clean, dull & dry and is a sound coat, meaning not peeling or compromised in some other way. Duration is a house paint, whereas the other is a stain. The chief difference is the dry film thickness and sheen. the thin dry film makes the stain follow the contours of the wood and can give you a more authentic or maybe even rustic look, depending on the wood. It will almost always be flat, with no shine at all. The thicker coat will more fill in the grain of the wood and probably have an eggshell or higher shine, maybe even to a satin or semi-gloss. It most likely will not be available flat. A thinner coat means shorter life, the trade-off reflected in the price. A properly applied thicker coat of duration can be expected to last a good long while, but I wouldn't use anyone's "lifetime". If the wood has roughness or character to it, that you want to exploit for a certain look, I'd put stain on it. If the wood is smooth, almost shiny the way it is, I'd use house paint.

This is an older post but I wanred to add my experience with Promar 200. We have always used BM Regal Select eggshell in our home - when we repainted in connection with building an addition, they used Promar 200 eg-shel. It is horrible paint - and combined with spraying the walls (without backrolling), every tiny imperfection in the wall stands out like a sore thumb. It is so reflective. In one room they had to come back and fix some issues and they used BM Regal Select - it is night and day - the Promar is super shiny and almost makes the color look lighter, wheras the Regal is just soft and almost no reflection. The walls look terrible where Promar was used to the extent that they must be repainted.

Hello - hard to tell actual floor color from photos but uploaded a few angles to give an idea. Looking for help choosing paint from SW! Think it’s best to do a white vs a gray since floors are light gray. Just don’t know which white would be best. House gets a lot of light. Need help with wall, crown molding, and ceiling THANK YOU!!!!!!! Just don’t like beige-ish whites

First too mant different things. IMO all the same cabinets with 2 different counters or all the same counters with 2 differnt cabinet colorsd Rainwashed from SW is a nice real neutral but still a color but not what you are planning. IMO it is too soon to choose wall color since it sounds like nothing is in yet. I know builders always want to paint before the floor goes in but honestly there is IMO no way to choose wall color at that stage. I never like real stone and fake stone in the same space a alundry roo is easy to paint later if what you choose doesn’t quite work as for the rest I guess choose something that seems right Is the light in ? If that is in and is all LEDs in 4000K you might bea ble to get some idea for wall color.the 4000k will allow the colors to stay true at night. I happen to like a really soft gray. green when I am forced to choose wall color with no context and then a white for the trim that is the same as the cabinets.Easiest get a door from the cabinet place in that white and get it color matched for trim.
