Thanks for the responses.. The brick is a little bit of a challenge.. "salmon". The "sheraton beige" siding comes off looking a "pink" next to the brick. I am not sure how rust would work! If I had the budget I would restain the siding as well, but that is a project for another day!! I think a stronger khaki might look good.. Maybe I should pick a color for the door that would look good with my dream color for the siding!!

If you can narrow down your choices to three or four, I recommend buying some large plain white poster paper and painting a LARGE swatch of each test color, leaving a 2" white border around the edge so that you don't compare the color with whatever is immediately around it, but still see the color in its intended environment. This works for interior and exterior areas. Hang the swatches with painters tape in the area where you want to try it and let it stay there for a few days days while you think about it and look at it different times of day. Don't rush it! Those little Benjamin Moore paint pods are about $5 and other paint brand sample sizes are inexpensive, too. You can easily paint large swatches with the samples and the expense is minimal compared with the cost of having to do something and then re-do it because the color isn't right. You'll be surprised how different a color can look in larger quantities than on a paint chip. N.E.V.E.R pick a paint color from a paint chip or from an online picture. Monitors, cameras, and computers' calibrations, time of day, seasons, area of the country you live in- so many variables when it comes to how any color looks. It's worth it to use HUGE swatches. Paint chips really are just a start to finding the perfect color. Also, if you find a color is perfect but it's too dark you can have the paint folks mix the color at a % formula- 50% if you want it half as dark, etc.

We kept the Golden Oak stained oak moldings and door jamb on our remaining kitchen doorway (we removed most of the other wall, so that doorway went bye-bye) despite putting up cherry cabs in the kitchen. Our contractor had suggested leaving the oak molding on the wall outside the kitchen, and then changing the molding on the kitchen side to cherry (and leaving the door jamb oak), since we had to take down the molding on the kitchen side anyway during the demolition, but we wanted to stick with the oak. We left it mostly because we liked it (we installed it/had it installed within the last 6 years), and it matches the rest of the molding we installed at the same time, and it also matches the railings and our front door which are visible through that doorway. We did however use cherry molding (provided and finished by the cab manuf to match our cabs) around the new bow window in the kitchen, and then had that (pine) window stained to match. We did so because the window and its molding butts right up against the cabinets on either side, and it made sense to everyone involved to do it that way. It all looks really good to us, so I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. FWIW, we used the same type of (flat) molding for the window as all the other windows and doorways, just 1/4" narrower I think, but that style works with our kitchen and the rest of our house.

Thank you for all the great ideas everyone! I can't buy a new door right now, but I will refer back to these when I am ready. :) Regarding the color selection, right now I'm leaning towards the orange. Has anyone ever used Ben Moore's Racing Orange? I'm wondering if that would be the burnt orange I'm looking for. I'm in a very traditional neighborhood and do not want to shock my neighbors with anything too bright.
