Interior Window Trim Color For 1926 Spanish-Style Home

Hello!

We are trying to figure out the best color to paint the trim, baseboards, and doors in our living and dining rooms. This is a 1926 Spanish-style home with the original ironwork. We have gone back and forth between light and dark colors. As seen in all of the photos except the third one, the floors have been refinished and left natural. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Is it possible to strip the paint and go back to a darker stained wood?

Hello everyone! Thanks for all your help. My paint work was finished today. Here is how it turned out! I'm very pleased. Looks just like a cake. Colors: Body was BM Ivory Tusk - just the hint of cream I was hoping for. windows and trim are BM Desert Rose, and corbels are BM Chocolate Candy Brown. I also painted the little round vents a terracotta color which I really love the look of. I didn't intend to go with all Benjamin Moore colors but with all the sample cans I tore through, they were the only store that was open late enough for me to go repeatedly after work! Sorry I thought I attached the pic of house. Here it is along with the Avalon DET552 color from the Dunn Edwards site. I know colors look different in the deck and on a computer screen but I'm noticing the color sample (color matched by Sherwin Williams) on the window looks very different and not what I expected. I thought it would look more green than blue and not as bright. Could it be that Sherwin Williams did not color match properly?

Hi. I'm no expert (very far from it lol), but in dealing with a situation similar to yours, I came across this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUXKXJScyYQ This person added the trim afterwards (on top of the stucco). Doing that might make you feel better about your windows. Good luck going forward. Please let us know what you decided to do. Depending on the shape of the trim you choose, if you try this, you might be able to get close to the look of the window trim in the picture shared by Jeffrey above even though not actually recessed.

Looks pretty "black" in color range. Seeing as that is a standard color, stick with that in my opinion as well.

I think the dark trim and the very light floors don't work together I like the paint that matches the walls but in a satin finish IMO works much better with the floors. I would love to see some of your decor to understand the reason for the light floors for sure.

I would have loved to have left them natural wood or stained as well. However, over the years, they have been repaired with different materials and need to be painted. We decided to go with the lighter floors because we prefer a California style of decor with a light neutral palate. We found the dark floors looked outdated.

I'd see if you can find a woodworker who can address the patched areas and then keep them stained. That's a very classic California look for this style of home. People in our area of California pay thousands of dollars to have the woodwork in homes of this era stripped to get it back to this look.
