jade plant vs sewer lines

last modified: 4 years ago

Do jade plants have a tendency to invade pipes with their roots? My plumber is recommending removal of a jade plant sited directly on a root-filled trouble spot in my house's sewer line. That won't happen, but is it possibly the culprit? Does jade do that? (I assume this plant is Crassula ovata.)

There are a few small shrubs and trees that seem like better candidates, even though they are quite a distance from the problem area. (They aren't being removed either.)

I tried looking this up but my google skills have failed me on this topic, probably because house plants don't normally affect plumbing. :)
