Can I Split an 20+ year Jade Plant through the Roots?
Comments (1)I'd need to see a picture, but I'm sure the plant would pull through. If both sections of the Jade have roots, it shouldn't be a problem. Even if you have to re-root one of the trunks, it shouldn't be too bad. We're going into some of the best growing weather for Crassula ovata. Josh...See Morei whacked my jade plant
Comments (71)hi guys n girls well im in scotland ( glasgow) and have a jade that is around 15 years old its 2" to 3" at the base and stands about 1 foot tall ( the chineese use these as hierlooms as they can pass through many generations you can hold a plant that was grown and alive when grand or great grand parents cared for ) any way on the old lopping of bits i choped a 1" thick branch from my mother about 2 years ago and its almost the same sizeabout . i water around 2 a month to 3 times in summer and may be once a month wintter. iv never heard of black out flowering ie keep it dark for 24 hours like in a cellar like can be used to force some crops to flower early such as totties. i also repot once a year ( was told to size up in minimal scales by a chineese guy that had a 4 foot tree in his shop the trunk was around 6 to 7 : thick fantastic tree. he also suggested cracking in an egg straight to the top soil an letting the protein help the plant ( never done this ) he said let it root bound its self and the repot tightly as for the main point chop away iv rooted the leaves straight into soil to form a wild shrub type bush more leave that branches ( kinda like an easter or christmas cacti) but finnaly they grow any were if not pampred to much remember there native area ( the far east ) has very temperate climates no were near like the sunny la and california coasts never had a flower although my easter an xmass cati flower 2 3 times a year peace people...See MoreCrazy Crazy Plant Swap!

Comments (59)Alex If I wash any ingredients, I usually do it before mixing them (I sift them more often than rinse - but either way is OK). But np if it is already mixed. If very wet, I would leave it in a big sieve over a heating duct to dry up (I made a frame and put in it a screen from a discarded window - with the frame; that gives me larger area in case I want to dry something). If plants have very wet rootballs and ends of the trunks, I would let them air dry longer before potting. What is your mix made off? Do not water for a while. If mix is wet/damp - that should be probably at least 1 week. Check mix deep down in the container using a bamboo skewer or chopstick to make sure it dried up. If your mix is totally dry, still wait for few days since there was some washing of the root - at least that's what I see in photo (not a problem, just use your judgement how wet it is). I would pot them before further pruning since there are not that many leaves left. They help to 'feed' the plant. There are many branches I see that I would definitely prune off still, but that can wait. I think that trunks are quite distinctive and should be potted to show their best; and wold dictate future shaping. (I totally defoliated plants. and repotted at the same time, but maybe it is just too much with such big plant unless you are more daring :)...See Moresocks
