Wow, you bathroom sounds freakishly like ours! We are finishing up our little 1/2 bath re-do and we chose a vanity. It is smaller than the 24" vanity it replaced, but it is taller (36"h vs. 30"h) and it is more shallow (about 6" more shallow than before). It's just a standard Ikea Lillangen vanity. We will store basics in there, but the one shelf it comes with can't be used due to our plumbing. Oh well. Pedestals are nice looking, but they really don't offer any storage. If you are not hurting for storage (we certainly are!), they are a great alternative. Good luck!

Hi! I'm not sure if this is the look you're going for but I had the same dilemma with Kohler Biscuit! I wanted a light bathroom but it couldn't be white, so I went with a tile that has white and then cream veins in it for my accent tile because I also had Biscuit Kohler sinks and a tub. Then I saved $ by going with a Daltile CrossCut Porcelain tile that mimics a marble (the polished version really looks amazing! I think it's called San Michele and the color was "crema") and the same product in bigger 12" x 24" pieces for our shower. I was nervous that those big tiles would look to modern but they are laid in a 70/30 pattern and the marble/veining looks really pretty while also giving it a slightly updated look. Basically I covered the most square footage with the less expensive tile (I think it worked out to right around $6-8 sq/ft) and then use the accent tile (Cloud 9/Del Greco, it was called) more sparingly b/c it was more expensive. Our marble countertops and the tub surround are then Breccia Oniciata marble. It's a creamy, dreamy marble that - importantly to me! - ISN"T white or light based so that over time, it will age well. Here's a few pics - you can see the porcelain on floor, the accent around tub and sink backsplash and then the marble. and then a link to the Cross Cut tile b/c it was the biggest savings. couple of options to keep the dark, drama even though this is a black ship lap, by using a neutral vanity w/marble top and some gold accents, it's anything but dark and dreary. wainscot on the lower half. notice the window trim and blind. pedestal sink (if you don't need any storage) gives more room/space in a small bathroom. even though this gray is a dark shade (like yours), w/the white below it (subway tile would work too) it keeps a classic look. notice the window on this one too,,,,(the zebras are a bit bold, but it works!) beautiful white casing w/woven wood shade, everything else is drama-city!

I have to laugh when I see current “code.” I swear that there is no way the home that I grew up in, a ranch built by my parents in 1957, had any of those clearances for the toilet, sink, and tub. I suspect that the space from the (round) front of the toilet to the side of the tub was, maximum 24”. On a good day. I viewed a home in my neighborhood a week ago that was built in 1959. I swear that if I sat on the toilet, my knees would have been in the shower across from it. I wonder, though, about some of these code mandates and the reasoning behind them. Old home don’t have the space required for some of these “code” requirements. J S your bathroom will be beautiful! I can’t wait to see your choices!
