how best to set up 2 sets of washers/dryers?
Comments (18)Thanks to all of you for the additional thought. We bought this house at the "dried in" stage, so we're sortof stuck with the way they designed the rooms. There is a huge "playspace" above the 3 car garage, but it has no windows and is in an "out of the way" space. It has sloped ceilings and a dropped floor...... you can tell it's not my favorite room. LOL. Anyhoo, I'd have loved a laundry room on the 2nd floor. But since there isn't a good spot to have it there, I'll have to just do the 2 sets on the main floor and make the kids tote their things around. Same goes for having a laundry room by our master. OUr closet isn't large enough for me to want to put it in our closet. And the only other nearby room is dh's study (which I already tried to steal for an even larger closet.... he said "NO". he, he. :o) gs~ I don't know of any downsides to having a stackable near your bedroom. You can just do the laundry when you aren't trying to sleep. :o) I'd put one in my master closet if I had the space. Wouldn't that be awesome?! Solie~ Yep, we're having 2 dishwashers in the main kitchen. There's a kitchenette on the 3rd floor for the bonus room and guest suite up there. We'll have dishwasher drawers for that one. Thanks for the thought.... we definitely have backup problems with our current house and only 1 dishwasher! rhome~ You are so funny.... needing room for beds. LOL! You know, I'm with you. I've always wanted a huge laundry room. Call me strange.... I love laundrymats (maybe because I don't have to use them anymore?.... ha, ha). I love to be in the laundryroom and hear the hum of the machines. I always have to be working or doing something with my hands it seems, so even watching a movie I have to iron or something. Thus the tv in the laundry room. I KNOW I won't be watching the ones in the other parts of the house. It's just not really my thing. Okay, I got way off topic...... Salena, I hadn't thought about w-d-d-w. Good idea. I think I'll do it that way! :o) Thanks. Allison~ Good reminder. Can you imagine me getting the room all set up and realizing the doors are all wonky and wrong, and I can't get the clothes into the next machine. Yikes. Thanks. ;o) Gardenspice~ I love machines under the counter. It would be awesome to have the extra counterspace, since it's too tight in the room for the island I hoped to have. I chose machines that are extra tall (dh and I are both fairly tall), so I know they won't fit under a counter. And my cabinetry budget is already thru the roof with 2 kitchens and umpteen baths. But I will think on that. It would give me the extra countertop that I'd love to have. Hmmmm...... Thanks everyone. I'm happy to finally get 2 sets of machines, however they are set up. Wish I could do the 2nd set by our master, and a 3rd set upstairs for the kids. But I'm not complaining about the 2 sets on main floor. It will still be a treat. :o) Just for fun..... here's the fabric for the roman blinds in that room. Cabinetry will be kindof a sage/olive with a dark glaze rubbed into the distressed wood. Machines will be red. HOpefully it won't look like Christmas in there. :o)...See MoreOT: Washer/Dryer Choices
Comments (12)I have a 2-yr old whirlpool washer and dryer and hate them both! They're top of the line. The washer is large...not in circumference, but in depth. It is hard on my clothes and my clothes get all wound up in the center wringer...badly. Not to mention, because it's deep and narrow, it's very hard to get the clothes out. The dryer has a lint trap on top and there is always lint all over the top of my dryer after cleaning it out. It also opens down instead of from side to side, so when I throw my clothes in they get caught on the door clasp at the top. Everything gets dried, but when I take them out, everything is in a huge ball and anything inside the ball is wet. The finishes on both are terrible. The white color is worn off on the higher spots. Previous to this I had a top of the line regular loading MAYTAG washer and dryer and LOVED IT.. WAhhhhh I want it back! The finish was indestructable. I had it for 3-1/2 yrs and not a wear spot on the finish. The washer wasn't deep, but large around and the clothes did not get wrapped around the center piece, plus I could get them out easily. The cycles were different and didn't pound my clothes into pulp. And...they were clean. The dryer had something in it (I didn't know what it meant at the time, but now I do) that didn't let clothes tumble into a ball w/them being wet on the inside...like sheets. The fitted sheet is always on the outside then stuff is stuck and wet on the inside...Maytag didn't do this. Plus the door opened side to side so I could switch the doors if needed to open the way I wanted and I never got my clothes caught on the catch. Also the lint screen was right inside the door. Both of my Maytags sold w/the house and I miss them terribly..sniff, sniff. Front loading washers...can you add to it after it starts? Because I'm doing that constantly....See MoreNeed help deciding on a new FL washer/dryer
Comments (7)Can you recoup the cost of either set? Renters aren't usually choosy about what they get but can be a pain in the rear if you opt for price over quality and the set requires repairs. While I prefer the bells and whistles on my own laundry equipment, I wouldn't expect renters to get top-of-the-line while I used sub-par, or older, equipment. If the average washer lasts about 10 years now then you may want to take that into consideration when making the decision. Cost will always be an issue. Due to my experience with Ropers and Hotpoints when I was a renter, I'll never buy either of those brands nor wish them on my worst enemy....See Moremoving - Help with purchasing a New washer/Dryer Please
Comments (35)Miranda33: That's what I've heard regards to Samsung, people saying that their servicer can't get parts. The machine of question belonged to friends of my sister. They were quoted $800-ish to repair so decided to dump their set. I have some experience repairing appliances so my sister took the machines (nothing wrong with the dryer). I thought "Hmm, this is going to be fun trying to find parts." Imagine my surprise when I easily found seven online sources. Compared for best price and the parts came in at $259, including shipping. Tell your sister to find her machine's model number and search it online. Some of the sources I use include SearsPartsDirect.com, PartsDr.com, AppliancePartsPros.com, RepairClinic.com, and ApplianceZone.com. MidwestApplianceParts.com came up during the Samsung search (by part number), and also SamsungParts.com. There are a couple others I use for a specific brand. Some sources I've used in the past are gone, and new sources have come up. Search the model number at one of the sources (I go to Sears first, they usually carry the most brands) to get the needed part numbers, then shop the other sources by part number for best price (don't forget to compare shipping). Google the part numbers to find more sources. Chickemama: I don't know. Perhaps repair services are tied to specific parts sources by contract or company policy (if it's a regional or national chain service), such that they can't seek other sources such as online vendors....See Moredadoes
