Porch party review
Finally have some time to report on my porch party. It was just FANTASTIC to be with some of my oldest friends and my super husband helped out SO MUCH. I could not have done it without him! Plus my girlfriends all brought stuff so it ended up being much more relaxing than my usual dinner parties.
I made the parfaits but could not find any decent fresh peaches, so switched up to straight raspberry and used up some sweetened condensed coconut milk I had instead of condensed milk. So raspberry coconut parfaits.
The parfaits were such a PITA that I immediately ditched the idea of doing fondue, even though I had the time and ingredients I was sick to death of working in the kitchen. Luckily I still had all the ingredients for a fab cheese and anti pasta spread. I ended up making olive tapenade with fresh herbs from the garden, and guacamole with some canned salsa from last year, and a goat cheese spread with chopped dates and walnuts and the ubiquitous store bought hummous. Also found some melon languishing in the fridge so wrapped that in proscuitto, along with some grapes and almonds. My friend from the big city brought some sexy cheese and crackers and I had quite a few other cracker varieties from my pantry along with the corn chips. Another friend brought more stuff and I only opened the smoked turkey and some mild cheese. The beverages were Seagram's coolers and my home made sangria. Here's a photo of the whole spread. Note the fire pit in the background with carefully stacked and sorted firewood waiting for us, thanks to my GREAT HUSBAND! Also got to use a custom engraved wood platter that hubs bought for us as a wedding gift last year.
Dinner was FABULOUS shishkabab done by hubs on the grill. Just marinated in whatever store-bought Italian dressing we had on hand. Pilaf was a rice mix that hubs also made. Another friend brought salad and dressing which I did not take a picture of.
Dessert was the parfaits, caramel apple fruit salad brought by another friend, and some chocolate peanut butter filled cups brought by my other friend who is a Pampered Chef salesperson. I will share a photo of the aforementioned parfaits in another post. We were eating leftovers all weekend and the following week!
The only thing that was "meh" was the melon wrapped in proscuitto. Unless both the melon is stellar sweet and flavorful, and the proscuitto stellar salty and flavorful, I really don't care for that appetizer and no one else did either.

Comments (18)Thanks for the additional comments everyone! While there's no doubt that the Maris is a great looking toilet, it's really important to me that it functions well too! It sounds like the clogging issue might have beeen isolated to the floor-mounted Maris, but the streaking issue might affect both the floor-mounted and wall-mounted versions. Another issue I've read about the Maris is that "men don't fit it", meaning that a man's special member can touch the inside of the bowl while sitting (which would be plain gross). Is the bowl really shallow at the front? I'm going to get a second quote using the Aquia instead of the Maris since I don't read of the same problems related to the Aquia. numbersjunkie, when will your reno be complete? It would be great to hear your first-hand experience that can directly compare the Maris and the Aquia. What I love on the webpage you posted ... love the old shutters as bkgrd ...the old 'scales' & that ribbon w/writing on it! ...all cool ideas! Comments (31)These porches are so beautiful. But how do you keep them so nice and clean? It seems like I get mine cleaned off and two or so hours later copious amounts of something else appears. The wind just seems to bring every leaf, bit of dog fur, bird feathers, nesting material, dead flowers (which seem to attract spiders) and dust my direction. If I were to screen the porch that would reduce it to just the dust-I hope. Comments (26)Ever think that unless the substance that was being swabbed was infected that the swabs would always be negative. I do not know what infectious substance was supposed to be in chicken but most chickens do not have salmonella and E.coli would take hours for a swab to be positive. If you watch the people who do these demos they use the side of their hands to press down before they start wiping forward. Doing this will remove all or most of a spill without leaving a trace. They then lift up the cloth rather than dragging it as most people do. It takes practice to learn but it is a method that is well worth practicing....See More
