A front porch Cocoa Bar/Party
Comments (1)Funny, candy ... I never heard of a 'cocoa bar,' either...thanks, OA! What I love on the webpage you posted ... love the old shutters as bkgrd ...the old 'scales' & that ribbon w/writing on it! ...all cool ideas! Well, next yr I'll have to try one on my porch (it's enclosed) ...but you've seen it...it's loaded w/'snowmen! They might have a 'meltdown' if I do a 'cocoa bar!' LOL! Merry Christmas, candy & all you Holiday-ers out there! TFS! Jeanne S....See MorePlease review screened porch layout and advise
Comments (22)You've gotten good advice here. One fan will be plenty for your room. You might even consider adding a light to the fan to provide overhead lighting when needed instead of recessed lights. You could install switched outlets for lamps or wall sconces for your ambient lighting, which is nicer to relax with than recessed lights, unless you put them on dimmers. There would be money saved if you skip the recessed lights and dimmer switch. We rarely use our recessed lights to have accent lighting at night, or to watch television. The spaces between the furniture are too tight to walk through the room with a platter of food or to pull out a chair at the table. You already figured out that the French doors and step are inoperable against the back of the loveseat. How much are you able to extend the length of your room? With a fixed width the 1'4" behind the sofa(loveseat) is too small to walk through. Could you push it back against the wall? Your table area is too tight to pull out a chair with 2' and 2'4" on some sides. Is it possible to use a smaller table for four instead of six? Using a smaller round table with chairs at 2 o'clock, 4 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 8 o'clock may work instead of pushing them back against the walls. One or two club chairs angled close to the corners of the French doors might work instead of the loveseat at the entrance. You have done a great job drawing the room and measurements. I don't have a program to help you try out different furniture, but hope some sweet soul will come along to assist you. As it looks the room is not large enough to carry out two rooms of furniture, unless you can expand your length. It will be fun watching your progress. This will be a lovely addition to your home....See MoreMy Porch - Your Porch - Let's share!
Comments (31)These porches are so beautiful. But how do you keep them so nice and clean? It seems like I get mine cleaned off and two or so hours later copious amounts of something else appears. The wind just seems to bring every leaf, bit of dog fur, bird feathers, nesting material, dead flowers (which seem to attract spiders) and dust my direction. If I were to screen the porch that would reduce it to just the dust-I hope. Do you (or your maid) sweep and mop these areas every day?...See MoreLuncheon porch party featuring kahlua
Comments (11)Kahlua is fab poured over ice cream if you're looking for something easy and cooling. I was thinking aguas frescas might be a more refreshing drink. My favorite is jamaica (hybiscus) but it doesn't mix well with some people's medications. I don't know anything about the fish part of the fish dish, but I think that sounds like a nice lunch. In general, I think the often stated more often broken, adage against fish and dairy products is stupid, but I don't think Mexican fish dishes would go well with either the White Russians, or shakes or ice cream. Dairy isn't great when it's hot anyway (even ice cream). How about a Kalua iced coffee slushy, or something kahlua coconut tropical? Kahlua sorbet? So...if you want the lake perch, could you have your dad over the evening before? Have a nice visit with him and a bucket of fish?...See More- 6 years ago
