Rose that you cannot find that you Want.
Comments (36)Thanks, but Forest Farm is dead to me. They've sent me too many mislabeled species roses. I have a new objective for species roses: they should be true to type and, ideally, seed grown so that if we buy two plants, they won't be clones. I'm sick of species selections grown as clones. With unrelated seedlings, if we carefully hybridize the two plants, we can actually produce seedlings showing a bit of the diversity of the species. I've love to have a garden full of species that aren't clones. OP species seedlings are always a crapshoot, and OP seedlings of a solitary diploid species rose are virtually assured to be hybrids because so many diploid are self-incompatible....See MoreOMG !! Comments (18)I was typing up my response above when montana and sue responded, sorry! I do like the wood hoods but I do also like the stainless hoods. I also really like the mantle hoods. I have the same problem with granite ... I like almost every one I see. Too bad I'm not building several houses, haha ! The website for kitchensource is great. There are so many different style hoods to look at there. Thanks ! If I went with the Omega National hood (which looks just like the one that was option 3 above from the KD), what would you suggest for the looks of a custom topper ? I have played around with different ideas for that hood but have not come up with a very good one yet. According to the KD, that one has to attach to cabinets to the left and right, correct ? (we are using cherry) Got a phone call back from KD. We will save $800 by not having them provide any kind of hood, so that's money we can put towards other options if we do stainless or a different wood hood. He had an idea for the stainless hood and the problem with the duct from the ceiling not lining up with the hood's flue. His idea was to have a metal worker "box out" the top of the stainless hood to hide the pipe. I mocked it up in my 3D program and also the custom hood pictured in the original post (the hoods below may not be exactly to scale but this gives a good idea of it, and of course the wood hood would match the cabinets). (click on picture for enlarged view) Florantha, yes I posted my plans last year (link to the old thread at the top of this thread in the first post). Kudos to you for recognizing it!! I thought this day would never come when we would be almost finished building !! Interesting point about downplaying the hood. Which option do you favor or do you have another idea for venting ?...See MoreAlisande - Did you survive your opening?
Comments (7)Thanks, Maire Cate. I did enjoy it, although that seemed unlikely by the time I had the car packed with food and wine to bring to the event. It was SO hot yesterday, hazy and extremely humid--difficult conditions for making any kind of physical effort. Then when I arrived and started setting things up things got off to an . . . unusual start. Using a corkscrew to open a bottle of red wine, I managed to break the cork, leaving about a quarter of it in the bottle. I decided to push it through, into the bottle. (I've since learned this is something people try only once.) When I did, the wine sprayed up like a fountain, covering me and the table with droplets of red. It was in my hair, and worse than that, it was all over my pure white linen top. I grabbed napkins and started blotting. I think I was mumbling, "This didn't happen . . . this didn't happen . . . " Amazingly, the little red spots blotted up nicely, so that they weren't noticeable unless I pointed them out. (Which I didn't do except with my daughter and my best friend.) As I'd hoped, adrenalin carried me through. As long as I was "on," with people to talk to, I felt fine. I drank water and nibbled on pretzel sticks. I haven't counted up the number of people yet, but I know we had at least 30. Almost all were my friends, so that gave it a nice party atmosphere. I didn't take a single picture, but I'm meeting my granddaughter there this afternoon and will snap some photos then. She couldn't come yesterday because she had to work. I was happy to see my daughter arrive, though. I was afraid she wouldn't be able to make it because she was stuck at O'Hare (with no A/C) much of the night before. But she got there, and stayed till the end to help me clean up. As for sales.........ha! Just one of the smaller ones was sold. I wasn't expecting any sales, so I wasn't disappointed. I woke up in a sweat again last night. I sure hope this isn't an indication that the fever was back. I especially hope this because I exchanged a lot of hugs and kisses last night. Most people knew I'd been sick, but figured I'd recovered, I guess. And, for those few hours, so did I. :-)...See MoreAlisande and others who have the Google Nexus 7 tablet
